    This is a good take on "but the climate has changed before"

    "I have never understood how anyone could find this comforting. The natural climate changes that have shaped human history have almost always been smaller and more regionally contained than the large-scale human-caused change we are currently experiencing. And even these changes have provoked suffering, scapegoating, and the collapse of civilizations."

    @eleanorkonik I've caught a factual, non-controversial error before in WP, specifically a claim that Stalin was the third leader at the Casablanca conference.

    WP is useful, fascinating and a wonder really. But it's hard to tell when it's wrong.

    @nigelsezyarr A Disney movie I've never seen.

    OTOH, do you remember the Mickey Mouse comic in which he took over a newspaper and started exposing corruption at city hall? Took two or three issues, as I recall.

    Not sure if Disney comics are still being printed, classic or new...

    A restaurant goes to the doctor and says, “doc, I’m always hungry but I have no appetite”.

    The doctor says, “go to Pagliacci Pizza and eat your fill, it’s the most delicious pizza in town. Once you get a taste, you’ll be cured”.

    The restaurant says, “but doctor, I am Pagliacci Pizza”.

    @allan Do you have any opinion about @keithz's BBC article? The other sources I've looked at seem to indicate a decline in US emissions.

    It's a bit depressing that as simple a question as whether emissions are going up or down is hard to answer definitively. Though I guess if the changes were really substantial in either direction the noise would be drowned out.

    @allan @keithzg Well, in the context of the podcast, it sounded like total emissions. Looking at the charts you've posted, it seems like the US trend is down, and the EU trend in recent years is stable, but the year-on-year changes are small.

    @keithzg Have a look at the links provided by @hhardy01 in his reply.

    The overall trend of the US is down since 2007; in recent years the EU has trended up. But there's not a clear apples to apples comparison from the data at the links, so I'm not sure one way or the other.

    It appears that Dr. Nikolov believes the climate has warmed over the past century (but not the last twenty years) due to decreased cloud cover; but I don't see his evidence for decreased clouds, nor an explanation for such a change.

    Thanks for the information. I'll shift my priors a bit, but I remain concerned about increased CO2 concentration in the atmosphere.

    @js290 @hhardy01
    If I understand correctly, Dr. Nikolov is agreeing that the overall temperature of the atmosphere is increasing, but he claims that is it because of "an ADIABATIC (pressure-induced) enhancement of absorbed solar energy" (rather than the conventional claim about increasing CO2 concentrations). Does he say why there has been an adiabatic enhancement?
