"Odell believes that there is another way. She cites, for example, the indie platform Mastodon, which is crowdfunded and decentralized. (It is made up of independently operated nodes, called 'instances,' on which users can post short messages, or 'toots.')"
✅ Am I being contrarian? ✅ Do I already have a relationship with this person, or am I being inappropriately familiar? ✅ Am I "ironically" doing exactly what this person just said not to do? ✅ Am I derailing another legitimate discussion in order to get on my own favourite hobby-horse or to one-up this person in my knowledge of social issues? ✅ Am I saying "Are you surprised?" when they're disappointed? ✅ Am I providing unsolicited advice?
@keithzg@ink_slinger#AndrewCoyne is essentially a classical liberal. On economic matters that aligns him generally with conservatives, but #conservatism is not really what motivates him.
@ink_slinger There is a long-studied proposal to build high-speed passenger rail in the Windsor-Quebec City corridor. I would be delighted to be a passenger; construction would likely put money in my pocket. But if the feds decided to spend a few billion on transport, the money would probably do more good in urban transit.
@ink_slinger Parties that win in Canada tend to govern from the centre, regardless of their rhetoric [0]. We shouldn't in general overstate how right-wing the policies of Conservative governments are, or how left-wing the policies of NDP governments.
[0] Actually, any given major party probably describes their own policy as moderate, while claiming that their opponents are extremists (Socialist hordes! Knuckle-dragging reactionaries! Latte-sipping elitists!).
#GospelToday (Lk 24:30-35) And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight.
Then they said to each other, "Were not our hearts burning [within us] while he spoke to us on the way and opened the scriptures to us?" So they set out at once and returned to Jerusalem where they found gathered together the eleven and those with them who were saying, "The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to Simon!"
Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread.
@ink_slinger Centrist indeed. Apparently the PCs, Greens and NDP all supported #MMP, and the Liberals were neutral. But they also all pledged to honour the referendum result, so the status quo survives.
I'm disappointed that the Conservatives didn't care to conserve #FPTP.
@ink_slinger Oh, that's easy enough to imagine. The Liberals and the PCs are like the Hatfields and the McCoys, they'll never team up with each other.
Theoretically, the Liberals could stay in power with the Greens, but that's very unlikely: first, Islanders have decided they bo longer want a Liberal government; secondly, the Liberal leader has lost his own seat.
Premier MacLauchlan will resign and the Lieutenant-Governor will call on Mr. King to form a government.
One of the ways package management with shared libraries is way better than how the dystopian mainstream software platforms do things, on normal Linux if a package is 14MB I'm like "whoa that's a big one" while on my phone I think "oh that app is nice and tiny actually"
