@ink_slinger @schlink I'm thinking about getting one too. I've been using an iPad for the last few months and it's painful, as if the device belongs to Apple and they let me use it. Android is better, but what I really long for is Debian running on something the size of a phone.

Apps are a big question for me as well. I don't need much, but I'd like to run the one issued by Brossard (my city) to replace library cards, and the one to pay Montreal parking meters.

Perhaps what's missing is "Satisfy customer demands."

“It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own self-interest. We address ourselves not to their humanity but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our own necessities, but of their advantages” --- Adam Smith

      Happy Birthday - Marginal REVOLUTION
      from Marginal REVOLUTION
Did you know that AOL/Time Warner owns the rights to the Happy Birthday song? First published in 1893 the song still earns revenues of some $2 million a year. You don’t have to pay AOL for singing the song, however, unless you do it for profit – movies that feature a birthday scene can pay …

If the plan seemed to lack transparency, it would face even deeper scrutiny over whether it has actually stimulated the economy

A mysterious 20-something artist named Olivia Jaimes revived the legacy of a comic that had fallen on hard times — in hilarious fashion.

@JubalBarca @bgcarlisle I think we all agree that it was bad when Google Talk dropped support for the XMPP protocol; wouldn't it be desirable if they restored that feature? Similarly, wouldn't the users of Facebook and Twitter be better off if they supported ActivityPub?

Explain to me please why I'm wrong.
