@ginnungagap I feel the same. My intentions are set for creativity.

@ginnungagap @skiring @lauraritchie
Where we live is defined by an escarpment, so the moon fell below the horizon in full eclipse earlier than elsewhere. I’m staring at the sky where it was, trying to remember it. There’s a planet still visible, I’m thinking Mars.
Streetlights, sun coming up. The last wisps of old prayer flags silhouetted in the tree.

@ginnungagap @skiring @lauraritchie I wish I had a camera that could show you. But it wouldn’t bring the sound of the earliest birdsong, a dog barking far away.
Kookaburras are just waking up, calling from tree to tree. They must also have a sense of this being strange, surely.

@ginnungagap and there is @skiring also knowing we’re here. And @lauraritchie. And we’re all trying to be guardians and caretakers to this weary earth, as we can.

And right across the planet which is such a tiny coin of shadow in the night sky @ginnungagap knows I’m sitting here. The basic and ancient facts of the eclipse, and the network. All at once.
The powerful thing we all have in common is that we share this time to be alive.

Sitting in the back garden in the dark watching the blood moon in clear winter skies. Traffic sounds.

It rained in the desert today. The student who moved here because the weather is more like the country he's from got his shoes soaked. And the surfaces that don't see much rain were slick.
On the way back from work, the plants were greener, and there was water in a few of the washes.
#smallstoriesI'm going for a walk in the breeze.

Goodnight friends! Today really slipped by me, kinda shaken up by a long, painful+exhausting period of immobility yesterday, one that came mostly out of the blue. Shorter+less severe today, but still sore moments—sleep thrown utterly off course again for now.
The weather stayed close & warm, wind rapidly flipping through weather channels from overcast murk to sunlight with piercing, dizzying physical presence.
May we find & value the chance to listen to & trust each others' experiences today!

Tomorrow I'm teaching in a small town. The projector in the room didn't have a cable connection that fits my laptop, so I asked my host whether there was a computer store nearby. She said they just had a Wal-Mart.
I went hunting for computer businesses instead, and the second was a local custom PC business run by a blind person. I'm much happier that my $10 cable came from him.

look when i first heard "the sharing economy" i thought it meant "a cooperative end to scarcity" so i am extremely disappointed that it just means "worse jobs for worse pay"

Worker Cooperatives
Not a panacea, but a useful step away from Jeff Bezos making $100 billion next year and another underpaid/fired hundred million workers turning their anger toward 'others'.
Mondragon's head makes 8 times the lowest paid employee. There are coops sprouting up across the US (largely unreported by media which survives on capitalism). It's concrete action that will lessen the chances of us all dying horribly or living in a torture chamber when automation really hits.

Capitalism vs Cooperative fun facts!
Cooperative Mondragon: CEO made 8 times lowest paid employee (Managers also took biggest cuts during pinch) employee happiness leagues above capitalist corporations.
Capitalist Amazon: CEO 2.5 MILLION times the lowest paid employee ($20,000) + strongarms governments for tax revenue, people working, dying in sweatshop conditions.

There’s warmth in the air, very faint, like not winter. Bower birds start fixing up their bowers. We walk around outside at lunchtime saying “isn’t it warm?” And some true things about our workplace are sayable, outside.
“I mean, fuck it,” says my colleague. “What the fuck?” and suddenly we’re all grinning.
Springtime.

Good morning, lovely people.
Hey, you’re gonna be ok. We all have our up and downs. It’s just a part of this life. It will pass and you’ll be back out there causing trouble.
Be kind to yourself.

@lauraritchie seals! How lovely. We have had the odd late whale going by.
All is well, ground is solid.

Today has been a day. I held my ground.
Then when I came out of my work building suddenly the air was a little warm and it felt as though winter could end.

There is now the faintest possible light in the sky over the lake.
When I was about eight years old my mum got me up in the dark to drive out into the countryside and listen to the birds waking up. She had a book with an illustration of all the birds in the dawn chorus. We sat in the dark and listened, and I was completely amazed that we did this crazy thing.
I’ve just remembered it.

Here’s another workplace moment.
There’s an Indigenous teacher who has developed a program to help us all rethink how knowledge is shared. Yesterday I was working in a yarning circle of maybe 15 women and him.
Before we started, he said that he was the only man, and if we needed him to get out of the way at any point, we could just ask.
The exact opposite of how things typically work in universities.
