I took a bike ride to St.Isadore today and, because I felt pretty good, spent time exploring the roads north of the river at Casselman, which is where I was to take this picture of our village downstream from the falls. 56km in all.
The New York Times today came out with a list of "the 25 works of art made after 1970 that define the contemporary age, by anyone, anywhere." What struck me was how little any of the works meant to me.
I list each one of the selections in the Times article and write a short paragraph about it and my response to it. Then I offer an alternative image, one that represents what to me counts as "important" art. I'll then explain that choice.
@lauraritchie You might try using speech-to-text transcription - https://cloud.google.com/speech-to-text/ - using your slides, do a rehearsal version of the talk. Take the transcription and edit it. (In the past I've used human transcribers to create scripts from my talks, but it would cost around $US 150).
Because I had two brand-new Gator-Skin tires on my road bike I decided to try traversing Larose forest. That proved to be a mistake - I hit some sharp gravel that shredded the inner tubes on my front tire. Two flats later my efforts at patching the tubes were failing. So thanks to the kindness of a stranger I was driven home. Only 40 km today, therefore (and a similar number of mosquito bites). Lesson learned: any future biking in LaRose will be on the gravel bike. https://flic.kr/p/2gyPuec
@lauraritchie@fncll I'm careful to avoid violent and graphic scenes because they tend to show up later in disturbing dreams, and Andrea always warns me when not to look, which I really appreciate.
July 11, 2019. Because I am very very stubborn, I decided to take the same route that I failed to complete a couple of days ago. Though the mountain threw everything it had at me - including a raging thunderstorm - I kicked. Its. Butt. 80 km, including 21 in thunder and rain. But the prize for the day belongs to Andrea, who took the trail down Mont Tremblant. So while I was sheltering from the storm in a restaurant she was hunched up against a granite rock face half way up the mountain.
@mackiwg In this case I rode on the flat tire to the nearest rode and had Andrea get me a taxi. Cost me quite a bit. You can get tires that fold up into a small bundle (eg. the Gatorskins I use). On a true wilderness ride that's what I would do. Also, duct tape can be used to hold the tire together, in a pinch.
58km bike ride today through Maxville and Moose Creek. Most of the photos are from the Moose Creek recreation trail, where I had lunch. Perfect day for a bike ride: 25 degrees, brilliant sunshine, light wind.
