For years, Mattel marketed a Barbie typewriter. When they switched from mechanical to electronic typewriters, they chose to license from a Slovenian manufacturer, Mehano, who readily supplied their E-115 (and later 116-118) model.

But these typewriters had a secret: hold SHIFT and LOCK, and press one of the first four keys on the first row, and the typewriter switches into substitution-cipher mode, encoding whatever you type:

Hey #lazyweb, is there any way of using #IMAP or #POP with GMail that doesn't involve password authentication settings that will have the Googs freaking out every time you switch network or turn on a VPN on your phone? The GMail web interface is terrible for churning through mailing lists so in practice I leave the lists that go to my GMail unread.

You can't convince me this isn't the best way to browse Mastodon.

Watching #BRASUI on my 12 year old Thinkpad X60, just for fun. It runs Libreboot and Debian Sid and handles it perfectly - the HD stream causes only ~30% CPU load.

It's really not necessary to buy new hardware all the time. May this be a reminder :)
