I'm Swedish and as a small nation we always proudly point out hey did you know famous person so and so is Swedish.
But I had no idea Rebecca Ferguson, a k a Rebecca Louisa Ferguson Sundstrรถm, is Swedish! Ferguson is her mother's name. Her dad is a Swedish business man and her mom is English, but spent her adult life in Sweden. The mom seems vaguely in the music industry and translated some ABBA lyrics in the 70s. Rebecca grew up in Vasastaden in Stockholm and started her career in a Swedish soap opera.
Even when she played Jenny Lind in The Greatest Showman nobody pointed this out to me!
@Dewoo Alt-dog Maybe you didn't know they're Swedish, but I think you've heard of Dolph Lundgren (Universal Soldier, Rocky IV) and Peter Stormare (Fargo, Armageddon, American Gods).
"Applicants must also have extensive knowledge of Unix, although they should have sufficiently good programming taste to not consider this an achievement."
R also spoke up and said he advises "don't quit $EMPLOYER, make $EMPLOYER quit you" ... but that sounds like "don't quit, get yourself fired" which is probably the worst advice ever.
K asked when my last day is. I told him I hadn't announced it, but that my plan is to send in my resignation "with immediate effect" one morning next week. The irony is that I'm on the list of people that were recommended for a merit increase. Potentially, the raise could finish processing the same day I quit.
The total solar eclipse was not accompanied by 3 days of global darkness (there were several YouTube videos saying this would happen; don't ask me why).
Yes, several YouTube videos also forecasted a major quake ... though some said the quake could come a few months to a few years after the eclipse. Way to hedge one's bets.
Two factor authentication is the bane of my existence. It is #ANNOYING! I misplace all the time. This may be related to my #ADHD but maybe not since that hasnโt improved since my doctor put me on Vyvanse while everything else in my life more-or-less has. From a security standpoint I get it, but I do get so concerned about how much of oneโs identity is tied to your phone these days. Not only does that hurt people who chose not to have a cell phone, but how easy is it for me to lose everything if someone else steals my cell phone.
In fact Facebook requiring me to activate #2FA to continue to utilize my account was the primary driving factor between me using Friendica as my primary social media now rather than Facebook, even though I first joined the โverse back in 2011, when it was called simply open source microblogging and was pretty much just identi.ca/feeds/7gqal0c2pesei9โฆ (if you had an account there, it still works BTW and @Evan Prodromou has indicated he plans to integrate ActivityPub by this summer, after its previous protocols, StatusNet and Pump.io, have fell out of favor). @Passwords @neurodiverse@hexbear.net @netsec@links.hackliberty.org @ADHD kill-the-newsletter.com/alternโฆ
#2FA with a https://www.yubico.com/ Yubikey or https://solokeys.com/ Solokey is pretty decent. But a lot of sites choose not to support real 2FA / #MFA and instead require a cell phone number (weak, because your phone is easy to subvert ... call your cellular provider and tell them they're you and they have a new phone. The "helpful" people there will gladly give control of your number to an entirely different sim card).
The last time I saw Netscape, it was a cut-down AOL service (cut down because it was cheaper and went directly to the Internet). That was probably around 2006.
I don't know when the software part of Netscape finally vanished. It seems like Netscape 6 had already come and gone by that time.
@LinuxWalt (@lnxw48a1) {3EB165E0-5BB1-45D2-9E7D-93B31821F864} yeah, that's what it looks like here, just a rebranded AOL ISP. Netscape opened all their stuff for Mozilla and stopped a seperate rebranded Netscape Navigator would have been Netscape 9 back in like '08. On my work PC I have the Netscape theme installed on my Mozilla Firefox ๐
@simsa03 I knew that Trump cancelling the deal with Iran was a serious mistake. This is clearly visible now that Russia's invasion of Ukraine proves that giving up (or not building) nuclear weapons gives other nuclear armed nations a green light to attack at any time.
I picked up Pacific Drive last week and I've been having a lot of fun with it. In a lot of ways it reminds me of The Long Dark, but much more light-hearted and less of a cruel grind.
The game starts you with perhaps the shittiest station wagon known to human kind, but you get to upgrade and customize it to your liking in play. This is a photo of the current state of my ride. The glow in the dark decals make it easy to find in the dark :D
Headed to Denver, Colorado next month to attend RedHat Summit, but I'll have free time in the evenings to check out the city. I already plan to visit Meow Wolf if I can. Any other recommendations?
