Question for #ActivityPub developers:
Given that most implementations have rolled their own rather than using the spec's client-server API, has anyone used or considered GraphQL for that?

Hello new #Mastodon folks! 🐘
Have you heard of the #Fediverse? 🗺️
It's a set of community projects that use the #ActivityPub standard to talk to each other.
Mastodon is the most well developed, but there are many works in progress too:
Instagram -> PixelFed 📷
@pixelfed
https://pixelfed.social
YouTube -> PeerTube 🎞️
https://joinpeertube.org/
SoundCloud -> Funkwhale 🎧
@funkwhale https://join.funkwhale.audio/
MeetUp -> GetTogether 🍻
@GetTogetherComm
https://gettogether.community
...and many others.
I've been thinking about an #ActivityPub implementation for #Wordpress. My idea supports:
- publishing blog posts and comments to ActivityPub-compliant servers, letting users follow/reply to/share/like these via other compliant services
- @-mentioning other ActivtyPub actors (e.g. Mastodon users) in posts and comments
- commenting on posts from Mastodon or other ActivityPub services
I've written up some technical notes at https://gist.github.com/jdormit/1049324b95e5096be20ee9ad1d749104. I'd appreciate feedback, so please comment there!
one thing I notice since I joined #mastodon is that I keep wishing for #activitypub version of everything.
Activity pub portfolios (soon hopefully with pixelfed)
activitypub video (peertube) and streams
activitypub blogs.
just remove the social media platform middleman and just have content propagate. I guess this is what rss was supposed to be (but with reblogs 🐧)
Yes, there's a Meetup style site called @GetTogetherComm
You can try it out at:
It's still being worked on, but it will federate with the same #ActivityPub standard that Mastodon uses.
The other day I was pondering about rebuilding my brother's websites on top of #ActivityPub, and also moving my blog over to the result too. Now, there's a catch: content may be much longer than 500 chars, which shouldn't be a problem for ActivityPub, but people following the thing might meet with big walls of text.
Not quite sure what to do about that yet.
New section on switching.social, for blogging alternatives. First entry is @write_as :

It would be nice to have a wider range of blogging alternatives too, perhaps alternatives to Tumblr, Blogger and Livejournal?
If you have any suggestions, let me know.
(#Plume is still in alpha testing)

Isn't this a beautiful description of the #fediverse? The #fungus #ActivityPub, the #trees instances, the tree species the type of instance, the leaves of course the users, and I saw a tree even acting as a relay server.
*How trees secretly talk to each other*
Who wants to work with me and @dajbelshaw, developing the #ActivityPub based #federated back-end for #MoodleNet?
We're looking for a #developer familiar with #Elixir (or transferable skills like #Erlang and #RubyOnRails).
The whole project will be #FOSS and you can work from home, what's not to love ;-) Please RT!

Hey fellow #developers, looking to create an #activitypub platform? Here's some ideas I've seen tossed around:
* podcast
* dating
* alternative to evernote
* alternative to asana
Are there now any functional #alternatives to #reddit already, that have implemented #activitypub successfully? I remember seeing #tildes and @prismo and @tuxether or some other services in the #fediverse some time ago, but they seemed not to be ready and useable yet
#WriteAs added #ActivityPub support recently.
Ever heard of dev.io? Well, as they are #FLOSS now, I've suggested them to add #ActivityPub support: https://github.com/thepracticaldev/dev.to/issues/317
I'm thinking about building an #ActivityPub plugin for #Wordpress. Does anyone know if something like that already exists? Is anyone else interested in that?
Groups are like a hashtag you can follow.
GNU/Social and pixelfed might be the first AP implementations to support this! #pixeldev #gnusocial #activitypub
@diogo @diogo You have restored balance to the fediverse. Long live ActivityPub. 🎉🎉 #gnusocial #activitypub
Does your #golang #activitypub application use go-fed? Want free and cheap marketing? Want to put an end to the universal increase of entropy*?
Let me know some details in the linked github issue, so I can update the go-fed README with it!
https://github.com/go-fed/activity/issues/73
*Offer valid where the second law of thermodynamics does not apply.
You may have noticed me doing research about the technology stacks being used by #ActivityPub apps, this is because I'm involved in a couple federated projects (both of which are new use cases, and extending the #ActivityStreams format).
One of those (current dayjob) is #MoodleNet (for educators to curate educational resources together), and we now decided to use #Elixir for the back-end, which I explain in detail here:
https://docs.moodle.org/dev/MoodleNet/tech/stack
I'm open for feedback & collaboration requests!
