As a FOSS enthusiast I think I've found the right Mastodon instance for me.
So, what can I tell you about me. Quick 'n' dirty:
* learning #Python
* help people to protect their #privacy with various projects
* use #Debian and #SailfshOS on my main machines
Goals:
* spread & gain knowledge
* meet new people
* build a small forum
* create a magazine (for fun)
That's it for now. I'm looking forward to have interesting conversations.

I didn't even know #XFCE was installable (and runnable) on Debian GNU/Hurd!
It works flawlessly (well, the file manager crashes) so far. Slow as heck on my QEMU image, but it's still really neat.
#Moka icons and the #Arc theme also work well.
As usual, I cannot easily startx as a non-root user. I need to look into this further.

The choice #Debian and the community has taken in having DebConf20 hosted in Haifa, Isreal, is a huge dissapointment. A community founded in their Social Contract and one that claims to build a 'Universal Operating System' should not be hosting a conference in an imperialistic, apareteid state. You can't be universal when the Palestinian members of the community will be excluded and you ignore the history of crimes perpetuated by Israel. I expected better from them, honestly. What a way to fly against the spirit of both Debian's Social Contract and the communalism of #FOSS #FLOSS.

@bob my thoughts exactly. If the device you have works with #Heads, why use #Tails? If it works with #Trisquel or vanilla #Debian, why use #Ubuntu? The whole problem with blobs is that we have no idea what that code actually is, or what it might be doing. It's not #FreeCode, and it can't be openly audited.

@Ajz cool. Do you know if AppImages are sandboxed at all? That seems like a sensible precaution when using them for evaluating new apps that may create vulnerabilities (either bugs or malware). I don't know if it's wise to use them for day-to-day use. It would be great if there was some way to chuck $ into a bounty for getting a new app packaged in the upstream distros (#Debian, #Fedora, #Arch etc), once it's mature enough for that to be appropriate.

@stevenroose yeah I was thinking about #ElementaryOS. It's a shame there isn't a libre version on the #FSF list. I might install it to have a play around, but I wouldn't use it day-to-day. Maybe I could try running #Pantheon on top of vanilla #Debian?

@deathmlem thanks for sharing your experiences. #LXDE is a dead project since merging with #RazorQT to form #LXQT. Besides which, I've found that #Mate uses about the same amount of system resources, while providing a much smoother #UX. #Debian is definitely a contender:
