    I'm trying to figure out how to verify an .ISO I just downloaded from #Debian. I've done this before, but there seem to be more steps now. This is painfully complicated. Is there some way we can make this easier for Jo User to understand the benefits of, and to do, the first time they are figuring out how to dual-boot #GNU #Linux?

    @dredmorbius my first piece of advice for people wanting to communicate securely, especially if they are activists or journalists who might be facing *targeted* interception, not just mass surveillance, is "don't use a vanilla mobile device". IMHO they are inherently vulnerable to such adversaries. Use a laptop that can run #Debian with no non-free repos enabled. Use a burner OS like #Heads (100% free fork of #Tails), and reboot (ideally relocate to a new WiFi) between each comms action you do.

    Sorry, I've been away for many weeks. Hat a minor winter depression and not much to report. At least the computer was running as expected.

    I am VERY excited for the next #Debian release, cause it has ditched qt4 and provides qt5 ports for apps that even arch hasn't done yet.

    And my machine might have reached the limit what you can do with newer kernels, xorgs and mesas. So fixed release might be a thing again.

    Is it the case that #Debian #Testing branch no longer runs pulseautio at the start of the x session on a newly-installed system? This would break #GUI #a11y for people who need synthetic speech for output. User can install and set up the missing parts, but, it's extra work.

    @succfemboi If someone contributes support for it, sure!

    So far, we decided to focus on #Flatpak for #Linux desktop, #Docker for servers, #Debian debs and #Homebrew for #MacOS to catch as many people as possible with least effort required.

    If someone adds support for #Windows, we would highly appreciate this, too!

    Call me crazy, but I think :debian: #Debian Buster is mature enough to use it full time over Stretch. Even switched back to #KDE #Plasma :)

    Need to work on the theming. Its a bit wonky.

    Even if you're going for desktop use, stick with #Debian #Stable. I tried Debian #Testing with some clients (customers, not apps), and they had weird problems that I couldn't reproduce on my system. Also, the #Testing updates are massive and frequent.

    @ChrisWere @rhode I'm just gonna say #Debian :debian: :)

    But seriously to answer your question, I personally like to stick as close to upstream as I can, so I'd use Ubuntu over Mint.
