@paulfree14@sir@Wolf480pl@Michcioperz ok, so why us #Taiga instead of just using #Gitlab? I feel like such a GL fanboy in this discussion, I'm honestly not that wedded to it, it's just a good example of a noob-friendly tool that does pretty mucheverything GH does without being proprietary
@bob > Gitlab.com will go the same way, except maybe with Google as the buyer.
1) I'm not sure what based that on, but I'm intrigued to know more
2) If that happened, everyone running #GitLab instances could club together to fork the software and carry on, or even reimplement the same UI on something that isn't Ruby-on-Snails ;)
@sir@Wolf480pl@Michcioperz anyway, where were we? Oh yes, replacing GH with a federated alternative. 1) I have used CLI Git. It's a great mountain bike, but it doesn't replace a high-speed train (GH), because even with the email-based functionality, it lacks the *many* other tools that make GH or #GitLab useful; issues, wiki, etc etc
OK, my understanding is that #GitLab does this. It doesn't seem to help users, projects, or organizations on multiple instances of #GitLab etc interact, creating a federate replacement for GH. If you have a better way to solve this problem that would work for doc writers who will never touch a command line, I'm all ears, and I imagine the #GitPub folks would be too
If you want to work version controlled on your #LaTex or #R project without big players like #GitHub involved, then take a look at the it services at your #university. Mine has a #GitLab instance for members.
"Choosing proprietary tools and services for your free software project ultimately sends a message to downstream developers and users of your project that freedom of all users—developers included—is not a priority."

The developers ask help plan OpenMW’s future!
The project is almost ready to become version 1.0.
OpenMW’s project leader Zini, with feedback from the project’s most active contributors, has produced the first draft of an enormous design document detailing the next steps.
@paulfree14 I already moved most of my stuff to #gitlab before they were bought. I only had to move one project which I did the moment MS acquired GitHub.
IANAL but I suggest everyone add a prominent note on their repo with a link to the page those sentences are from (on web.archive.org if need be), asserting that they consider those sentences to be part of the implied contract they made with GH when they created their account. Even if they are removed a more recent version. Or just move your code to an instance of #GitLab, #Gogs, #Gitea, #Phabricator, #RedMine, or something else before Microsoft takes possession of GH ...
I just learned that the #Debian#Gitlab instance is not limited to the Debian project but open for any Free Software project. In case you are looking for a (new) home, I think Debian is a great place to be. https://salsa.debian.org
