Maybe it would be worth a try to convince the developers of the tools which minify JS, to keep the licence tag? This way it would be really as easy as just putting a licence tag on each source file, which you should do anyway. #JavaScript#FreeSoftware
I made my homepage #librejs compliant, also to get some firsthand experience. While it was quite easy for my small homepage I'm still not sure if it works for large websites. #JavaScript#FreeSoftware
@njoseph I used to have a lot of trouble with my browser until I installed #NoScript. The problem is not the browser itself, but the screeds of badly engineered #Javascript that almost every website tries to make it run. The problem gets worse the more tabs you have open at once.
Someone should think about implementing an alternate FE that can function without #JavaScript. Not necessarily JS-free, but using JS only to enhance it, such as downloading updates without a page reload.
@h I'm by no means a #JavaScript guy, spent most of my development years using Java and Eclipse and now mostly am working with #python, #bash scripting, #Jenkins configurations, #Dockerfiles, #puppet config files and the like. #vscode supports all of them in a meaningful way and has a lot of very well thought-out details especially also when it comes to things such as #git integration and the like. It seems just like #vim or #emacs without the need to be configured to be usable. 😉

Turns out I'm officially "old". I'm now reading nostalgia pieces about the 'golden age of more than 20 years ago', and nodding along in agreement. The web was better when you had to learn HTML to publish on it, #GetOffMyLawn you dang #Javascript kids! But who do I have to blame but myself and my comrades, who were busy trying to recruit people to use the net and make user-friendly publishing tools in projects like #Indymedia? We helped make this mess. We can help fix it. https://www.theringer.com/tech/2018/12/19/18148701/mark-zuckerberg-facebook-year-in-review
In JavaScript the "empty" regular expression literal is written `/(?:)/` since the parser would erroneously take `//` as the start of a single-line comment
Huh, this is getting better: "JavaScript is most kindly described as a language that "just happened" and an enduring testament to human capacity to route around problems." #javascript vs. #haskell
Find out if you have a local #LUG, a !Linux Users Group. In #Waterloo Region we have a great LUG, @KWLUG@sn.jonkman.ca, as well as completely separate groups for #KWNPSA ( #NonProfit #SysAdmin), #KWVoIP (a #VoIP Users Group), different user groups for just about every programming language (and three for #Javascript alone). All are warm and friendly -- I know, 'cos I've been to most. But start by finding a local Linux User Group, where people can point you in as many directions as you're willing to go.
I've been looking around the latest Pythonista beta these last couple of days. It's extremely impressive the things it can do. I wish I felt more confident that I'd use it to automate (or even create new) stuff with it.
Never mind me. I'm just trying to figure out how to bundle a static file with my #Electron#JavaScript app, so that the same code works in both dev and prod.
__static only works in prod, despite all resources I come across suggesting it should work in both.
Sure, newspaper website, I'll turn off my ad-blocker and #NoScript for your site. When you turn off all the #JavaScript that tracks me and makes my browser crash, so all I see is static placed ads, just like I would if I read your print edition.
@zatnosk @ajroach42 I think dialogs as a whole fail to prevent sites from doing bad things. I've seen too many sites that say We are unable to show you our content because you have #JavaScript turned off and users then allow whatever the site and its third party partners want to do. . I'd make the client default to being unable to perform most tasks involving 3rd parties.
