Strypey (strypey@mastodon.nzoss.nz)'s status on Wednesday, 03-Apr-2019 13:28:54 EDT Strypey @xurizaemon #LUG type groups used to run #InstallFests, which got people like me learning to install, people with a strong political motivation for tech self-sufficiency. But it's starting to look like the only way most people will only use a #FreeCode OS is if someone like Puri.sm sells them a device where it's the default OS. I suspect the same is true with ethical services; training people to self-host (although a good idea) won't do it, and #PlatformCoops are needed.

Bob Jonkman (bobjonkman@gs.jonkman.ca)'s status on Tuesday, 25-Dec-2018 23:23:12 EST Bob Jonkman Find out if you have a local #LUG, a !Linux Users Group. In #Waterloo Region we have a great LUG, @KWLUG@sn.jonkman.ca, as well as completely separate groups for #KWNPSA ( #NonProfit #SysAdmin), #KWVoIP (a #VoIP Users Group), different user groups for just about every programming language (and three for #Javascript alone). All are warm and friendly -- I know, 'cos I've been to most. But start by finding a local Linux User Group, where people can point you in as many directions as you're willing to go.
