    Just wanted to say, #Nextcloud supporting #ActivityPub is huge, because installing Nextcloud is way easy, you basically run a snap package and are done. So lots more folks can self-host!

    @dazinism I've installed #NextCloud, #DavDroid, and #OpenContacts, as well as #K9, #QKSMS, and #Dialer2. Trying to get them all to work together smoothly is a nightmare. I get that it's a really hard problem, because I want people's contact info to be very secure when I store it, but I also want that data to be shared between the apps I need to use it with, remote backups etc.

    @bhaugen there are two general approaches to solving this problem. One would be for the family to have a private server running something like #NextCloud, that allows us to decide who can connect to it and share our media, and holds a remote backup. The other would be connecting us all via a more distributed system like #SyncThing, where we all serve as back-ups for each other, but there's no central repository.

    Crisis averted ;-P I installed the #Dialer2 app from #FDroid, and I can make calls again. Now I'm curious about whether I can remove the built-in Contacts app and its accompanying bits and bobs, and replace it with a #FreeCode address book? If so, can I then sync my contacts with #DavDroid and #NextCloud? New toys ...

    @geniusmusing #NextCloud is planned to be part of the next generation of FOS (family online services), but the whole thing will have to wait until I have *time and energy to set it up (unless I can persuade #sonOne or @amic to set up and run it).

    * time and energy — I was discussing (on #Wire) the greatly reduced energy and motivation that three years plus of travel and overtime has brought with #sonTwo and #Daddy_A and @amic earlier today.

    When the favorite list of #2FA providers (https://twofactorauth.org/) does not want to include self-hosted service, because <no idea>.

    So I've created a PR to be at least honest about that and prevent waste of contributor's time:

    (obviously, I would much more like it, if they just include services like #Mastodon and #Nextcloud etc.)
