@sonatagreen That's an absolutely fair statement. We need to make the #openweb easier to use before we can realistically expect "normal" people to leave the corporate web in significant numbers.
Talking about #rebooting the #openweb been trying to work with/away from the #geekproblem of overcomplexterty and #stupidindividualism build it from scratch/pointlessness. I have been trying to work building open projects agensts the flow of closed #incryptionists for 20 years. I can't express what a relief mastodon (activertypub) has been, it's a weight off my shoulders and a opportunity to put the pointless/draining last 10 years of tech behind us and move on. Am happy to press #reboot button.
For people not already immersed in the subcultures of #FreeCulture or #FreeSoftware, the term #OpenWeb is not any more understandable than #IndyWeb or !Fediverse. But I agree that we should use a single term for consistency, so newcomers understand that all these things are part of the same movement, and #OpenWeb works for me.
@Hamishcampbell Although I think the #openweb is much broader than just the #fediverse, I agree that it's a better, friendlier term for people how aren't already versed in the subculture (i.e., most people).
We are trying some bots posting the good radical media and news that currently dues not post into #openweb projects. #ORG#submedia#novaramedia are the current testing groups.
Lets call this the #openweb for outreach lets not use terms like #indyweb#fediverse as outreach as they are inword looking sub-culture terms.
We are a delightful mix of sub-cultures on here. But if this network is going to survive we need to outreach into more mainstream cultures. Sub-culture projects are #fashernista and another fashion will come along soon anufe...
My though on the subject after seeing 100's of #openweb projects grow and die over the last 20 years.
