@kaniini@bob I have been working in this area for more than 20 years and have seen hundreds of #openweb projects fail from takeing VC or NGO funding. I have not seen one seceased after swolling the poisen. if it is not #4open its heading for the trash, its just how the world is. Now ideas for non pixy dust funding are alwase worth hearing about, and will support :)
@LWFlouisa@LPS it's like each instance 'votes' by making its own decision and blocking or not blocking. The aggregate of all those 'votes' determines how much of the fediverse any given instance can federate with. Nobody can stop an instance from existing, or publishing over the #OpenWeb and #ActivityPub. All they can decide is whether or not their instance is listening. #FreeSpeech is respected, but also #FreeAssociation, which necessarily includes a right to disassociate.
1) Looking back - how technology shaped the production and distribution of radical/progressive media like Undercurrents, Indymedia etc. 2) The current day - failure of radical media technology. The rise of the #dotcons and the new alt-media projects. 3) Looking forward - The activetypub meetup. This is an update on the state of current #openweb projects. A continuation of the very successful Mastodon meetups that I setup last year, opening up to the wider projects like Peertube etc.
You are wriggling so as not to address what am saying :)
To be clear am saying we have (largely) been miss-sold privacy (as an absolute) by #encryptionists for the last 20 years or so , were it should have been sold as obscurity/mudding the waters etc.
This has lead to damaged to many #openweb projects by making them hard to use and incomprehensible.
The rebooting the #openweb is a opening space for creative sustainable tech. A move away from the pointless/dangerous/distructive #dotcons tech the #fashernistas have built the last 10 years. A opportunities to do/be something meaningful.
“Do you want to sell sugar water for the rest of your life, or do you want to come with me and change the world?”
No garrenty the quote ended up in the #dotcons so don't drink from the #fashernista fountain ;)
Rediscovering the open web: #OpenWeb is trending right now. At least, I suspect it is. It’s kind of hard to accurately determine what’s trending on the open, decentralized web. And that’s a good thing.
