#sonTwo called to tell me his father-in-law wants to give them a small amount of money to get started in cryptocurrencies. I gave him a quick primer (with the caveat that I've never tried them, just watched the hype), including sharing my misgivings about giving banking info to unregulated crypto exchanges.
I am going to have to read up on it now.

Sent out my "Non-shopping Notification" notices today. I know, it is late ( #sonTwo already sent me a gift six weeks ago and @bthall already ordered a gift ).
"I know you're aware already, but due to current finances, I'm not shopping for or buying any gifts. ..."

#Daddy_A hinted that if I'm ready to do so, I can move to #NE, sleep on their couch, and seek a local job. I told him plainly that I already have such an offer from #sonTwo, but that not causing them any stress is important.

Well, #Daddy_A and I spent yesterday and today trying to get together for a #videochat, but it didn’t happen.
#sonOne is still on the 16 hours, 6 days per week schedule, so that one didn’t happen either.
#sonTwo and I talked for about an hour during that one.

Bread machines are great. I haven't bought a loaf of bread in about three years. If #sonTwo's bread machine has custom settings, I recommend 20 min knead time, changing the rise times (1hr, 1.5hrs, 1.5hrs) and at least 60-70 min bake time. A good recipe is 1 cup water, 2.5 cups all-purpose flour, 2 tbsp wheat gluten, 1 tbsp sugar, 2 tbsp oil, and a generous 1/2 tsp dry yeast. Although "hard flour for bread" (with all the natural gluten) is recommended, I use all-purpose flour (with about half the natural gluten removed), then adding about 1 tbsp of "vital wheat gluten". Cake and pastry flour have most of the natural gluten removed, so I've never even tried it.

#sonTwo texted to tell me that his in-laws bought them a bread machine.
Me: Oh, cool! I was thinking the same thing, but it's beyond my current budget.
They can sometimes be competitive, but I'm more of *good, you're helping take care of our kids and grandkids*

A while back, I bought Catan (The Settlers of Catan) to send to #sonTwo. The other day, I mentioned that I had it, and he said that they have it already. #sonOne plays games, but they seem to be of the Cards Against Humanity type. So I contacted #Daddy_A and he was excited about it ... he's been wanting to buy it for some time.

I think #GS3 got ahold of daddy’s phone. I got a call, but from the sound of his voice, #sonTwo was across the room and unaware of the call. I tried to get my grandson to talk to grandpa, but he didn’t make a sound. I probably should have called back, but I know my son will be heading to bed soon and didn’t want to delay his rest.

Just got a message from #sonTwo. They're cancelling their trip, so that I don't have to try and figure out how to get halfway across the country. It is the right thing to do, but we've all been looking forward to this for some time.
-
#Daddy_A: Since you talk to #sonTwo more often than I do, can you pass a message to him?
Me: I’m used to an almost daily phone call, but the most recent work schedules have made that a weekly thing.
A: Yeah, I knew he was busy.

My Christmas present from #sonTwo arrived today. https://nu.federati.net/attachment/277905

Ordered some clothing for #Little_Boy_A and #Little_Boy_A2. The 7 year old and the 4 year old have the same waist size, so ordering pants is sort of questionable. Will the legs be long enough for the older child? Will this shirt fit the younger child without dragging the floor?
I often try to avoid #Amazon, but this time, I ordered from there. One of the things I dislike about Amazon is when I order items for multiple children in the same house, and they spread the delivery over a month's time. It's really a lot easier if everyone gets their stuff at the same time, even if they have to collect everything at one warehouse (ship it to that warehouse) and then ship it all together to the customer.
In this case, besides my order, #sonOne purchased clothing and shoes for #Little_Girl_A3. All of her things have arrived already, but for the boys, only a pair of t-shirts have arrived. The rest will arrive in (what looks like) 4 more shipments between now and the end of November.
I still haven't ordered their shoes. And I don't know whether #sonTwo ordered their socks yet.

All of this really points back to Florida's issues with "butterfly ballots" in 2000. Apparently, many voters found them confusing. Plus, people punched their ballots incompletely, leading to "dangling chads", which could prevent a vote from being counted.
The idea is that electronic voting machines could avoid both of those issues. Naturally, in order to prevent other issues, these machines need to print voter-readable transcripts, which the voter then submits for counting.
Several years ago, I drove #sonTwo over to the polling place in order for him to vote. After waiting an hour in line, he got inside and got his voting transcript printed. As he was heading to submit his votes, the election official announced that they were out of transcript paper, so as voting machines ran out of paper, they'd be pulled from service. There were probably 150-200 people still in line outside when that happened.
(I was already a permanent vote-by-mail voter by then, so all I did was walk in and drop my ballot in a box.)

Scheduled some non-available time in December for #sonTwo's birthday. His brothers are going to start thinking he's the favorite, especially if I schedule time in March for his #GS3's birthday.

#sonTwo and #Daddy_A seem to be hiding from politics right now. I'll be glad when this is over, so they'll be communicative again. There's probably also a work schedule component. 2nd son's new position involved a shift change (and the end of his 2nd job).

Shared #Daddy_A's financial status with his brothers. We're going to team up to get the kids some clothing and shoes. For some value of 'we', considering that I and #sonTwo's in-laws are already buying #GS3's clothes.

#sonTwo’s main employer offered him a different job with slightly higher pay. It requires him to work during the time that his other job is on duty, so he’ll be quitting the 2nd job. Even though it’s a cut in their income (and things are already tight), I’m in favor of it.
Hindsight taught me that working and taking classes and studying for 14-20 hours per day meant that I missed a lot of important moments in the kids’ lives. (On the other hand, twenty-five years later, he understands why I missed his birthdays and other occasions.)

#sonTwo ordered my Christmas present already. I know he's on MLBShop, so I can guess it is "Dodgers World Series Champions 2020" merchandise.

#sonTwo tells me that the #Tampa_Bay #Rays pitcher (Snell) is "on fire". Currently, Rays 1, #Los_Angeles #Dodgers 0; bottom/4th.

#sonTwo discovered a trick that gives us each the ability to view up to two hours of the game for free.
