#sonTwo tells me that #GS3 keeps grabbing the remote and pushing buttons.
That's consistent with my experience. The child is attracted to buttons, lights, beeps, and screens, and touches / pushes to make things happen.

Still reading the voter information pamphlet and filling out my ballot. Sending political comments to #sonTwo, because we can talk about such things without getting angry. ( #sonOne immediately wants to argue if one believes even the slightest bit differently than he does; #Daddy_A gets silent and stops talking to you ... sometimes for months ... when such topics come up. )

@mangeurdenuage Yikes. #sonTwo saw that movie when he was pretty young. (As usual, I was at work.) I think he's still afraid of clowns.
-
Ordered extra smoke and carbon monoxide detectors for #sonTwo's home, so now they can have them at each end of the house.
-
#sonTwo's wife told me what she bought him for his birthday. I haven't even started looking for purchases related to adults' birthdays. I should look for a belated something for #sonOne first, though.

So removing #Manyverse from my #iPad released enough storage to allow me to upgrade to #iOS 14.0.1. I've since reinstalled Manyverse, and I'm currently upgrading to iOS 14.1.
My impressions of iOS 14: irritating as f*ck. Every few hours (almost every time I unlock the screen), it asks me to enter my AppleID password. You know, that long and complex machine-generated string that is difficult to enter correctly on a mobile device? Yes, that one.
Oh, and I keep getting random permission screens popping up. No, I do not want to set your browser as the default. I'll set Firefox Focus as default, if I can. Otherwise, I'll leave it as Safari.
This is a Gen5 device, so it will likely go unsupported within a year from now. I may just wipe it and ship it to #sonTwo, so they have something that #GS3 can play with. I have an old Samsung Galaxy tablet that I was already planning to send.
(Funny story: he got ahold of his mother's newer iPad and pushed so many random buttons that she couldn't even log in to back it up. She had to completely wipe it, losing some data in the process.)
We agree that children spend too much time with electronics, but the problem is that even if you don't intend for him to spend time with electronics, he's automatically drawn to them. He discovered grandpa's watch the first day I was there, and if it lit up or made the slightest sound, he came running.

#sonTwo gave me a t-shirt depicting the current major project at his workplace. (No photo because it would reveal too much info.)
-
#sonOne only watches when he can be there in person, so I know he's not watching. We used to go to Dodger Stadium 3-4 times per year.
By the time #sonTwo was old enough to do the trip, I was going less frequently, but we went to lots of minor league games.
I don't recall taking #Daddy_A to a major league game, but we went to a few minor league games.
-
#sonTwo and I are tracking tonight's MLB NLCS #baseball game. Currently #Atlanta #Braves 3, #Los_Angeles #Dodgers 4; top/8th.
-
It occurs to me that I never did go into the back yard and meet #sonTwo’s chickens or see the #granddoggy’s escape tunnel construction project.
Yep. I have to return to #MO soon.
-
"I Am The Walrus" has always been one of the Beatles' songs that I disliked. In fact, about 20 years ago, a co-worker wanted to give #sonTwo a cassette tape of Beatles songs. I said that as long as that song was not on the tape, it was okay.
(I didn't want to have him singing the song around the house.)
-
Going to wear my #Dodgers shirt today. Since #sonTwo only works one job today, he and I and #GS3 are going to take photos all wearing Dodger Blue.
-
#sonTwo has asked me to return later this year and again in the first quarter of next year. I'll try to come some time between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I'll need to rent a car that time, so I can zip up to see #sonOne and possibly #Daddy_A also.
-
@mangeurdenuage No, I'm visiting my son ( #sonTwo ) and his family. I'm really enjoying this grandchild ( #GS3 ) and hoping to move near enough to see him frequently.
-
So it looks like the science boat (that took #sonTwo and #Daddy_A on their 8th grade field trip) is no more. Imagine being on a three-day boat trip with ~200 middle school kids.
No, actually, it was a surprisingly good time. Except on the bus ride back home when I asked one kid why he was called $NICKNAME and he started crying. But he soon got back in control and was fine.

#Daddy_A bought some Fortnite in-game theme pack for #sonTwo. I’m glad to see them relating well. Neither of the younger two is especially close with the oldest (10-12 years older), though I am working to bridge that gap.
-
Saw a big 48 pack of the brand of TP my mom likes, so I bought it.
Also got Duplo blocks as my gift to #GS3 (like giant Lego blocks for younger children). #sonTwo and his wife are excited about my visit to #MO. They've already made plans for me to return in a couple of months.
Let #sonOne know I'll be at his brother's place, three hours away. Now we'll have to schedule a day for him.
#Daddy_A lives six hours away, and spent too much visiting #SoCal, so he's not coming to visit while I'm there.
-
So the weirdest thing is happening. #Daddy_A, who has never been one to express an opinion about something that someone else might feel strongly about, is suddenly sending me messages about politics and the environment.
So far, it isn't annoying, even though I generally avoid those topics to begin with. (With #sonTwo, we can generally discuss a topic and even advocate for points of view that neither of us hold, without getting angry, but most people cannot discuss such topics peaceably, except with people who believe exactly the same as they do.)
Because he's always been so reluctant to speak up, I try to make sure to never appear to endorse any POV when communicating with him. He's still the conflict-avoiding twelve year old, except he's almost twenty years older.

> > #sonTwo's two jobs pay just about as much as her one job was paying.
> Good ending then.
Not yet. He was already working two jobs and she was working one, so they've lost half their income.
-
@mangeurdenuage There could be some initial physical cause, but the stress that you and your family members have been under the past year or more could cause physical damage.
My middle son's wife was told by her doctor to quit her job if she wants to live. The doctor said the stress of that job was causing her body to attack itself. So now they have the stress of trying to survive on half the income. ( #sonTwo's two jobs pay just about as much as her one job was paying. )
