As I said before, I looked at getting a rental car (two days' drive time each direction, assuming I drive at least 12 hours per day), taking Greyhound, taking Amtrak. I think the single travel day in each direction will swing my decision. (If I had indefinite time to travel, I'd be greatly in favor of driving; since I don't have that, I'm opting for arriving in one day, and not exhausted.
I have to find a book and a toy to bring with me, so I can present them to #GS3.
“Dad, it’s just because you’re old. Get used to it.”

lnxw48a1Chica was a good dog. She was 15 or 16, and the last dog that any of my siblings had. This was my youngest sister’s dog. I remember when they moved to a tiny apartment and brought Chica to live with us and our (at the time) dogs and cats. At the time, they hadn’t had any cats, so we were concerned that Chica would chase / attack the cats. After a little while, she made it clear that she understood that the cats were family members.
The highlight of Chica’s time with us was when my niece #LG would visit. She made sure everyone knew that was her little girl.
Chica kept trying to “go home”, so she’d escape from the backyard and then wander the neighborhood. Home was fifty miles away, so we always found her and returned her before them. (The experience fence-building turned out to be valuable for #sonTwo, who built a fence around his own backyard this year.)
After they bought a house, Chica moved back home. She wandered in the front or back, but never tried to leave. And now that she was accepting of cats, they got two cats, one of which became her best friend.
I know there must be other, not dependent on copyright, ways for photographers to make a living with their cameras, but I can’t come up with something that would convince most photogs. I can’t even convince the 32 year old that grew up in my home.
I was telling @bthall / @bthall@nulled.red how tough it is that the kid ( #sonTwo, current 32 years old ) who called almost every day for the past sixteen years is working so much that we're not talking more than once every week or two.
#sonOne spent over two years on crutches after a bicycle crash in high school. #sonTwo followed suit about a decade later, but his foot healed faster, so he was done in under a year.
This puppy looks to have a large breed in its ancestry. When the human child ( #GS3 is about 1 1/2 years old ) and the dog-dog child sit next to each other, they're almost the same height.
My daughter-in-law quit her job (health reasons; but also, there was a change of ownership and the new people running things wanted to save on employee salaries either by reducing pay or by chasing people away and hiring lower-paid people in their places), so #sonTwo has to keep his part-time 2nd job and hope for more hours.
Sent these to #sonTwo as suggested listening. I expect they'll have too much detail ("too technical"), but if he gets a birds eye view it'll be helpful.
Reminds me that one time I fell out of bed and had trouble getting back up years ago. When #sonTwo heard of it, he said "If we have to put you in a home, we're choosing one near #sonOne. I'm tired of taking care of you."
If you haven’t made an emergency evacuation plan yet, it is time to do so now. Ours is outdated, so needs work.
But basically, if you’ll need to bring it in an emergency, you should know where it is and be able to grab it quickly. If you’ve got pets or children in your home, or if you’ve got someone with health issues, you should never wait until authorities give evacuation orders. Be ready to leave and to get beyond the danger area BEFORE the crowds try to flee.
When #sonTwo and his wife were in #FL, they spent something like 12 hours one time getting from Miami / Ft Lauderdale to Tampa. Another time, they spent over a day getting out of FL into #GA, only to find that there were no places in southern GA with space available ... I think they wound up going to #MS to avoid the storm.
Early in the Anaheim Ducks’ life (as the Disney-owned Mighty Ducks), I considered taking #sonTwo to see a game, but prices were out of reach, so hockey stayed out of my life.
