"Debate me," the enlighten centrist screamed, "for I am privileged and politics is basically a philosophical game for me. I am basically unaffected by the changing of governments, because I am among the most privileged in society and it would take a truly radical shift to change that fact. This is all a game to me. It has no material impact on my life and I have abstracted it so much in my mind that I can't imagine it having a real impact on anyone else, either."
@GeoffWozniak I figured it was. It's really an awesome book. I think @allan was the one who recommended it to me in the first place. It totally changed my outlook on economics and politics.
My daughter, who I'm pretty sure has never seen a Skittles commercial in her short life, saw a rainbow for what I think was the first time in real life, and one of the first things she said was, "I want to taste the rainbow!"
I just stumbled upon the weirdest subreddit: neogaianism, which describes itself as "Free market environmentalism" and anti-statist. I'm pretty sure these guys are ancaps who care about the environment, which is a whole new thing to me. I guess destroying the planet would count as violating the NAP.
It's weird that online discourse has generally become so toxic that I now think of the Weird Internet era of things like goatse and Warren Ellis' die puny humans as a more innocent time.
@keithzg She loves the seitan we sometimes get from a local vegetarian restaurant, but I'm pretty sure she thinks it's real meat. And I can't remember the last time I tried making seitan myself...definitely after I met my wife but before we were married.
@keithzg That's a good question. I don't actually cook with tofu super often, because I've only recently started learning techniques for preparing it well, so it might just be that she hasn't been exposed to it a lot (though I'm pretty sure they eat is semi-often at daycare, since they make a lot of vegetarian food)
So far, she's not a huge fan of tempeh, but that another one that I've only recently started introducing.
Lots of parents talk about (and complain about) their kids refusing to eat meat. Not my kid. The other day, after she finally ate her damn tofu, she said, "Can you make meat tomorrow?"
Ironically, this is sometimes a problem since we're omnivores who are trying to reduce our meat consumption for environmental reasons. At least I know she'll always eat beans and lentils, so that makes meatless meals pretty easy.
@keithzg@sconlan I think that is still the long-term plan, but I imagine it's gonna be a while since @thurloat is busy with a newborn. He'd also previously indicated that porting over the instance customizations (remember, Moosetodon is technically a fork) was likely to be pretty complicated, so it's not necessarily something he can just do over a weekend.
