I used to really enjoy Chapo Trap House. Lately, it's just kinda boring and I'd rather just listen to stuff related to Canadian politics (as well as the various non-political podcasts I listen to). Same with Street Fight, even though I generally like the more down-to-earth vibe of the hosts.
I'm trying pickle-brined chicken for the first time this evening, using the leftover brine from my home-fermented sour dill pickles. I'm told it's delicious, so I'll report back this evening!
@ThatGeoGuy@purism@Fairphone Talk to the weirdos who still use Frankensteined Nexus 5s. But, yeah, I'm skeptical of it being meaningfully usable for as long as they hope. Switching to the Google-free AOSP might help, but probably not enough.
Shoulda put a top of the line SoC in there, so in five years it'd be running like midranger of that era.
@ThatGeoGuy@purism@Fairphone Yeah, I was kinda worried about the processor. Midrangers like that are honestly good enough for most people (my Nokia 6.1 has a Snapdragon 630 and it's more than sufficient, since I don't play resource intensive games), but probably not for 5 years. Depends on your use case, though, I'd imagine.
@mpjgregoire@allan Yeah, I've actually thought about going that route again, but I don't know if I have anything interesting enough to say to make it worthwhile. I guess blogging politics under your own name isn't always wise, even if your views aren't especially controversial, just because some employers may not like what you're saying, but I occasionally do that anyway because I like to live on the edge. 😉 😂
@allan I think "career reasons" are part of why I started posting less often. Plus, the rise of social media meant that posting something of Facebook or Twitter was both easier and more rewarding (in terms of feedback/comments) than writing on my own blog.
Wow, the @Fairphone 3 is ambitious: intended to last 5+ years and with an aim to provide security patches and software updates for 5 years. If it was available in N. America (and I hadn't bought a new phone less than a year ago), I would be very seriously considering it.
This article explicitly mentions the possibility to switch to the Google-free Open OS after launch. Even with an updater (sound like no need to use a CLI script as with the FP2).
I say "formerly main" because myname.com was my main blog and website for ages. At some point, I decided to turn it into more of a professional portfolio and because bad about updating it.
My main blog, updated infrequently, is now elsewhere.
It occurs to me (thanks to an AskMeFi post) that I've probably been blogging on and off for something like 18 years—before it was really even called blogging.
Now, my writing is spread over probably a dozen sites, many of which no longer exist, and I've lost the archives of my (formerly) main site at least twice, so I don't have the consistency or legacy of famous bloggers like kottke and dooce.
None of this really means anything. It just sort of surprised me when I stopped to think about it.
solar potential isn't just helping the environment, its also bringing energy sovereignty to people. if not exclusively to a person, then under the local control of the community. If big business is allowed to keep legal ownership of pannels that wiped all that potential out #solarpunk
@keithzg That's a great line, that makes a lot of sense given that Russia is not exactly an open dictatorship. I mean, it's getting that way, but why would the author expect Dear Leader-style Putin posters, especially in a trucking sim?
The review itself is kinda odd, of course. The country with the largest land mass has trees and vast forests?! Who knew? 🙄
@keithzg To be fair, "Beyond Meat is bad because it's not local" isn't an argument I've seen. That's not to say it doesn't exist, but it's not the crux of the popular arguments against plant-based meat.
