This wario/waluigi “friends” thing has me fucked up. I was positive they were brothers. Charles Martinet sort of suggests they’re a couple????????????
I am also contemplating if I should bring my son's ashes with me, since he will never be able to come on one of these "boys' trips."
I'm going camping with my dad and brothers tomorrow. It's becoming an annual tradition. This year, we're bringing various instruments to jam. We'll be *that* campsite. I'm looking forward to it.
What I'm not looking forward to is trying to back the trailer into a campsite without my wife. She is undeniably way better at it than I am.
Reasons borders are bad, number 4837361: the Amazon is "the lungs of the world," but anyone not in Brazil is largely powerless to do anything about it.
@ThatGeoGuy Fucking magnets, how do they work?
@Fralambert Too real...
From the all-knowing Wikipedia: Some authors, like Bosnian political theoretician Hasanović, connect the emergence of ochlocracy in democratic societies with the decadence of democracy in neoliberalism where "the democratic role of the people has been reduced mainly to the electoral process".
@thurloat Ah, I suppose that make sense. Gearheads are like any other kind of geek: they've got their own language and are very into specific details (like exact model number), so I'm not super surprised by the lack of a more general database now that you mention it.
@thurloat I find it hard to believe something like this doesn't already exist on a tuner forum or something.
What can we learn about Norwegians' "boring lunches?"
I love the simplicity of this, even if it's not exactly how I would want to plan my lunches.
I mean, I couldn't live exactly the absurd lifestyles presented, but I'm the type of person for whom they're supposed to be aspirational. Instead, I just laugh and think rich people are ridiculous.
Impostor syndrome is a thing that never really goes way. I tend to forget that I am very much the target demographic of the Globe and Mail, so whenever I read the lifestyle section I just laugh at these asinine rich people. I usually forget that I could probably lead this absurd lifestyle if I wanted, because growing up poor marks you forever. And as much as being poor sucked, I think it made me a better person and I am constantly worried my daughter will be unaware of her massive privilege.
When I travel, a big part of the draw is food and drink, regardless of how close or far the destination is.
Like, going to Trier, Germany, was 25% about Marx, 10% about the ancient Roman ruins, and 65% about the potato restaurant (Kartoffel Haus, I think it was called) and the place that served first century Roman dishes (they don't translate well to a modern Canadian palate).
Exception: Frankfurt green sauce is incredible and I've literally never seen it on a menu outside of Frankfurt. Same goes for the handkasse (literally, hand cheese, a type of unaged, slightly sour cheese native to Frankfurt).
Honestly, despite its reputation as a sleepy, corporate city, Frankfurt had some damn good food and very cozy, unpretentious restaurants.
The signature foods of various places I've travelled are available, at a higher level of quality, in my home town.
Belgian waffles? My wife makes 'em better, as does the (possibly defunct) local waffle cart.
Portugese custard tarts? My favourite local Portugese bakery makes them better than any I had in Portugal.
Currywurst? To be fair, it's street food and I only had one in Germany, but a local sausage and beer place makes it better than the one I had in Frankfurt.
@thurloat LOL. White bread, microwaved, with some extra coarse sea salt. It's practically the same thing, right?
@erinbee I'm just stating facts (probably), not passing judgement.
Besides, I was Brut man before I gave up aftershave in favour of the mostly non-existent scent of aloe vera (so soothing! So mostly odourless!). I have no right to judge.
@erinbee Buzz Aldrin uses Aqua Velva.
Source: he's an old man so the odds are good.
@thurloat @Shadejackrabbit Maybe they do here, as well. It's been literally years since I went to A&W for breakfast.
It’s a hot hot hot hot day in parts of North America. If you’re like me, your only access to cooling at home is something like a struggling window unit.
Libraries can be cooling stations if you can get to one. And they mostly won’t kick you out. They’re a place you can be and not buy anything. Keep safe if you can. 💜💜💜💜
