I mean in my particular context it made me trust statistics even less, so I suppose it was good in that sense.
-
@bthall I disagree that this is necessarily a good thing.
-
@lnxw48a1 Nintendo, of course, stands out, but that's due to two things: 1: Nintendo holds a patent on downloading updates while the system is suspended. If you own a WiiU (I think *you* do but for the benefit of others) you'll sometimes turn it on and see a notification that like Smash Bros has been updated. Same deal on the Switch. The only exception is games you own physically, where the disk has to be in for it to update.

@lnxw48a1 This is one of the things that people blame for resurgent PC gaming. Before the PS3 and 360, game consoles were more convenient than PCs. Now with patches and install times and system updates PC, Xbox, and PS are all just about as bad.

@lnxw48a1 I would say that we didn't really figure it out until the 50's. I wouldn't be surprised if FDR could have won another term were it not for the stroke.
-
@bthall We're required at my school as CS students to take a class on R.
-
@bthall sadly it seems that I don't have my R code handy on me. You know those homegrown languages by someone who has no experience with language design but for some reason needs to make a full programming language? R is a reimplementation of one of those. It has a lot of...weirdness.
-
@lnxw48a1 I'll take R over excel sheets, but usually for data crunching stuff you're able to use python these days. I don't know #employer 's requirements though.
-
The fact that #R will automatically turn any function which takes an element as an argument into a map when passed a set is kinda cool though
-
@zoowar I can see the thought process behid going merkel again. With AfD above 10% I'm sure people are worried about who comes after merkel. Electing her lets you put that off for a few years.
-
@lnxw48a1 I'd consider that a plus, personally. R is a nightmare of a language
-
@gargron hey, least they're only 13% over there.
-
@pete I think I may agree with you. at first I didn't like it because I hyped myself too much, I was expecting something fundamentally different.
-
Possibly controversial opinion: the whole web was a mistake. A protocol like gopher with basic hyperlinking would've been sufficient.
