    @bumbar afaik Ubuntu doesn't contain malware, but having said that there have been various controversial features over the years (such as Amazon ads) and it often does use proprietary graphics and wifi drivers.

    Proprietary drivers are a risk because they're not maintainable and could contain backdoors or more likely just exploitable vulnerabilities.

    What this is probably showing is that vision systems naively trained are learning absolute pixel values or color histograms, whereas biological vision systems are mainly concerned with edge detection and optical flow.

    Probably running the input image through a Canny edge detector, or using that as additional input during training, would help to give a more robust result.

    @1iceloops123 @paulfree14 @koyuawsmbrtn I'm pretty sure that mastodon instances don't all block gnusocial, because I'm running gnusocial and I interact with people on mastodon instances all the time.

    The original mastodon.social did have a reputation for insularity though, so calling it a walled garden might be valid.

    • Advocating an independent internet, getting out of silos, FB, etc

    • Demonizing folks who are providing an independent internet service

    Are not really compatible. My thought was that if he is now demonizing RiseUp then who is he going to be demonizing next. It's not a bandwagon I care to ride.

    You know that thing where you end up blurting coffee because you've just seen something ridiculous. Anyway.

    Meanwhile in reality, for some industries (eg glassmaking) the scenario on the left already happened some decades ago. In glass factories humans only really oversee SCADA systems and do occasional maintenance. Other than that everything between the raw inputs of sand to shipping the finished product is automated. Automated production lines. Automated packing. Automated transport of packages and automated loading onto delivery trucks.
