Holy shit, I think I just saw a unicorn. A website that doesn't just give you a cookie wall but let you chose the level of cookies you want (i.e. all cookies or only technically necessary). In conversation from community.highlandarrow.com permalink -

A rather nice alternative to Lua for embedding: http://wren.io/ . I like the keep-it-familiar approach to the syntax and the clean embedding API (no Lua-esque stack). In conversation from community.highlandarrow.com permalink -

I don't know what scares me more: systems without security by default or the thought that people actually run things like etcd outside of a VLAN/internal IPs: https://elweb.co/the-security-footgun-in-etcd/ In conversation from community.highlandarrow.com permalink Attachments

@maiyannah @tuxicoman Aka teaching people not to use MS products. Personally I'm still baffled that they manage to have mucked up email arriving both in Mail and in Outlook (on my work laptop) without having a way to tell the OS that it should use Mail because, you know, I have the premium version. Gotta say, I like where Zig is going with undefined behaviour: https://ziglang.org/documentation/master/#Undefined-Behavior (Short version: anything UB is detected at compile time or runtime unless you explicitly opt for the "performance at all cost" compilation option). @maiyannah Plus a media culture of glorifying violence. I mean, from a European perspective the US has a very strong emphasis on violence as a problem solver. Meanwhile the only police show I can actually remember being from Canada is about a team of negotiators (Flashpoint it was called, I think). Dutch police shows also aren't about running around with guns. Yes, they're often drawn but not that often actually fired at someone (as opposed to a warning shot).
