@katiekats @maiyannah To some people "friend" means "vassal". They are so caught up in their own ego that they cannot form relationships with others unless those relations are purely about them. I guess for a lot of yes-men the payoff is status, e.g. through a job at the White House or at a trendy Silicon Valley company. Others, well I understand some psychological disorders may induce that kind of behavior.
@maiyannah Yeah, politicians tend to do that. In NL we had a non-binding referendum. First one didn't go the way of the very pro-EU party that's always pushing for more direct democracy. When they got back into government they voted to abolish it.
@maiyannah Or you use a PHP framework that uses composer. Personally I think it has a place in development for the kind of applications that need to be delivered within time constraints. Bad design is a lesser evil than lost business from a company sustainability perspective.
@purplehippo @maiyannah @bob Oh, you can trust the BBC all right. You can trust them to get science wrong and insert their politics in every article suitable for it and some that aren't.

VeriusSigh. People really don't understand GDPR. Saying that it's ok for your employer to read your work emails because you gave them permission when you signed a mandatory form. Nope. Permission must be voluntary and permission asked by an employer to an employee is very rarely considered voluntary by a judge even if it's framed that way. Reading emails in a work email account is something an employer can often do under GDPR but it's more likely than not justified by legitimate interest of the employer or legal requirements.
