@cybermeow It's literally propaganda made by the top 1% in order to keep them in power.. And they just recite it word for word like some kind of creepy cult. It's gross.

@viomi they think markets never change on their own, they worship austrian economic theory and they have no real answers as to how property consolidates.
Theyll tell you that outside interference will harm the market but they cant tell you how...

@thatbrickster @viomi @dt omg I literally jsut wrote you a thesis, with explanation, and backing information on how free markets lead to crony capitalism.

@thatbrickster what are you talking about? market mutualism, syndicalism, and communal production all present valid modes of economic production.

@thatbrickster @viomi @dt
My claim is that crony capitalism is the same as free market capitalism
when there is no laws to specify acceptable economic activity corporations take over large parts of society as demonstrated by US Steel and the Pullman Railroad company.
This is bad as the aforementioned monopolies ended up owning all resources that their workers needed to survive, the companies proceeded to milk their workers in terrible working conditions, and the US army was sent in to break up union strikes -

@dt @thatbrickster @viomi the merger movement failed because US President Rosevelt created antitrust laws and used them to break up large american monopolies such as the ones I said before

@thatbrickster @viomi @dt I wasnt stating opinion at all, the 19th century both in america and in europe was a time of monopoly. in US we had US Steel and General Oil led by men like Carnegie and Rockefeller holding monopoly over infrastructure and using patents to keep out competition. whole towns like Pullman, US were owned by companies, your employer would know your medical bill, grocery bill, housing costs.... speaking of pullman, you should look up the strikes that happened there.

@thatbrickster @viomi @dt whatever, I was just pointing ou thtat you were off by 100 years and conveniently negelcted the aftereffects of the initial free market capitalist economy.

@viomi @thatbrickster labor unions, communism, socialist movements, anarchism, and antitrust laws were created during the 19th century because large business monopolies were recklessly gaming the economy and crushing workers under foot.
This is also the century at which we would put in place age restrictions around work and standardize the 5 day work week.

@thatbrickster @viomi socialism isnt a single doctrine and to think that it is a single doctrine is cold war propaganda.
also watch your centuries bud, the 18th century was where everything got better as property was decentralized from monarchy and aristocracy, the 19th century was where private property coalesced into the hands of a few, creating a class of landlords, bankers, and factory owners. Coincidentally that century was full of anticapitalist sentiment.
