unless you're on mastodon.social, in which case, don't be
i'm glad that ActivityPub reached Recommendation status before the Working Group charter expired but I think
1. It needs a 1.1 or 2.0 release to clarify a LOT of behaviors and clean up a lot of aspects of the spec
2. That 1.1/2.0 draft should basically be a rewrite informed by how it is (a) being used, and (b) planned to be used by implementors in the wild, with special attention paid to implementations with unconventional needs
the great thing about mastodon isn't that people don't try to make witty remarks about popular toots, it's that the popular toots are all "snoozlen't: hhnnngddy the cruncy dirgus" and there just Is No Witty Response To That

actual april fools advice:
please don't use CWs to make april fools jokes without labelling them as such because people still need to be able to safely navigate the web and it would suck if they just couldn't be online at all today/tomorrow
@luka @gaditb @mattskala @shel i would be careful about conflating any of:
- OStatus, ActivityPub, etc., which are federation protocols
- GNU Social, Mastodon, etc., which are softwares
- Any of the various communities *on* GNU Social, Mastodon, etc.
these all have different points of origin and histories and it's important to be clear about which one you're talking about when you discuss them
@Satsuma @chr My personal opinion is that AP is actually better-suited to tumblr than twitter and that it is for purely historical reasons that it has thus far gone the other way
it's something i want to see and would be willing to consult with someone on but given my workload it's not something i can develop myself (or am necessarily qualified to, tbh)
