We'll call Mastodon the medium social networking software, because it isn't rare and it wasn't well-done. https://community.highlandarrow.com/attachment/408414

If you say something stupid, and people call you out on it, you don't get to act superior cos you, in your own words, 'triggered' people.
That's...not at all how that works.
-
I...may have been subposting particular individuals I've seen recently there.
Subposting all over the place, it's what I'm known for apparently :v
-
I get it, you make something, you're proud of it, you put work in, and hearing people dislike it is naff.
But...read what they're saying, pay attention to it. Sure, maybe you're right, maybe they are idiots who 'misunderstood your vision'
At the end of the day though...maybe they make good points, and improving in the future, and learning to take criticism, is more important than your fragile ego.
-
And yes, even if what you make is widely praised, people are still allowed to dislike what you make.
-
Oh by the way, people are allowed to dislike what you make.

@maiyannah
Resident Evil is one of those series that I find interesting in the "wow, we went from that to that?" sort of sense.
I don't play them myself (me? Horror? Oh gods do not mix) but seeing how the first games have become...well, how Resi Seven is, is certainly quite the evolution (or devolution, depending on your opinions)

I guess it's more...I don't really feel like you always need to sacrifice graphics for art style? If that makes sense. It feels like a lot of games have bad graphics and call it art style. When what they're going for...could be achieved while still 'looking good' just in their own way.
-
@maiyannah
I never quite understood why 'retro' is a thing that people go after.
Most of the time it feels like it may as well just be 'old games'
and the games they replicate weren't good -because they're now old- they were good for their own reasons.
Especially how the graphics are replicated and called an "art style" ...nah, the graphics were just naff back then, a lot of the time it wasn't much of a choice.

@maiyannah
Oh, hack and slashy horde sort?
-
@maiyannah
I've heard Nioh been talked about a lot like that was one, tho I'm not personally sure to be entirely honest, just heard others note it in general.
-
@maiyannah
yup, once something gets popular, all the clones come out, and never try to find out what the original charm was (if there even was one), ending up artificial.
Now we're seeing all the Witcher clones, for an obvious one.
-
@maiyannah
Mhm. Games like that are always interesting to me, have to be in right frame of mind to appreciate them, but when you are...can really respect how much work was put in.
-
@maiyannah
I adored This War of Mine for that.
Not to sound like one of those pretentious sorts, but when I think of games that aren't inherently 'fun' but I'm glad they exist, that kinda go against that whole "all games must be a joyride from start to finish" thought that lots of people have, that's one of them. I didn't massively 'enjoy' This War of Mine, cos it's depressing as all hell, and really damn tough (both in a mental way, and actual difficulty)
But damn is it good at forcing you to make hard choices, and correctly 'rewarding' or fucking you over depending on what you do.
-
@maiyannah
Mhm, and that's...naff.
If I act fantastically evil, I ought to get the consequences of doing so, but also in some cases the benefits of selfishness.
Same with being morally good, a -LOT- of games just give you everything if you're fully good. So there's no real draw to sacrificing morals. In certain cases one should lose out if you're good, that's the point.
-
Also bonus points if you let my character go "MUHAHAHAHAHA" at some point during an dastardly act.

C'mon Pathfinder: Kingmaker. I know you'll probably disappoint me. But let my realm be this Lawful Evil dictatorship, that my evil (but very attractive) female fighter lass leads, and has twisted all the companions under her whim. :v
