@alxd interesting. In Seattle & region, the maker/hackerspace movement largely died by 2015. Even the for-profit groups have mostly died.

At least for me the makerspace (as opposed to hackerspaces) thing always felt like a weird appropriation of suburban dad garage shop "culture" .

I always am getting vibes from major strength/fitness groups (CrossFit, Spartan, etc) that are heavily pro cop/military, with a side dose of very conservative thinking- things like "be prepared for anything".

Reminds me of some of the vibes in Idaho in the 90s (when I was growing up) and the militia people. It's uncomfortable.

Curious if others have more intelligent thoughts there.

3 hours of commute per day has brutalized my workout schedule. Didn't work out this last M-F, I could tell when I was swinging the kettlebells today.

I'll have to adjust my workout schedule this week to cope better. I need to get at least 2 days in midweek, I think.

@wion I was staggered. My wife, who competetive gymnastics at the national level as a girl, was an order of magnitude more staggered.

We plan to go back next time they are in town.

I can probably answer questions for you.

The first point you have there is nuanced. A lot of matriarchal religiobs with priestesses existed. What Christianity did is grant lay women personhood, afaict. Something Rome was bad at.

Second: Christianity had ideals of community and class crossing that were radical. They were heavily involved in hospitals spreading, for instance.

Monday. Up at 5(ish) to work out, shower, etc. Breakfast. Out of the house at 7 to aim at being at work at 8:40.

Looking forward to moving back to Seattle. 100 minute commutes are 100% too long.
