@codythedragonrude there's also device test and packaging, which I am not involved in. They take completed wafers (which I help supply), test them, slice them up into individual die, and package them as final chips. Some of them are CPUs sent to our customers, some of them are auxillary chips that get sent to motherboard makers, and so on.
@DashEquals I'm trying to raise my kids to be "resilient". I feel a lot of younger people these days lack a certain resilience necessary to live in the "real" world.
Interesting enough, new grads that are hired on at Intel seem pretty resilient out the gate. Maybe STEM disciplines require a thick skin to begin with?
@DashEquals I agree completely. The parenting techniques of boomers, and even Gen Xers, leaves a lot to be desired.
I was born in the early 80s though, and a lot of these issues were non issues for my parents, they did not have a tight leash on me nor did they coddle me. I'm trying to emulate that with my kids.
What I find interesting is that this article was written nearly four years ago, and the very behaviors talked about (content warnings, #TriggerWarning, etc) are prevalent all over #Mastodon
@craigmaloney Something to think about for your podcast:
Right now you are up to 260 episodes, averaging (according to my podcast player) 43 minutes an episodes. At 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, it will take just over month of continuous playback to go from episode 1 to current.
@batata unfortunately that's not possible, my work depends on Windows-only applications, heavily uses MS Exchange, and I would get in serious shit wiping the hard drive without ITs permission (which they will not give).
At work, I'm stuck on #Windows 10 and it is just god awful slow and laggy. Even with a decent CPU (I5-6300 @ 2.5GHz), 8 GB ram, and SSD, it just struggles.
I really miss my #Linux setup at home. I'd even use #GNOME at this point.
But gaspachos are also not uniform in definition. The way most are prepared is more consistent with a purée or a salsa than a soup. And some variations add fruits like strawberries! What do you call a fruit soup? I have no idea!
