@eo @brandon I agree. The problem is that ISPs knowingly block torrenting. Net neutrality was supposed to prevent that practice, but well we know what became of NN in the US.
@Jo have you considered talking to our admin @omnipotens ?
@gunt @brandon aye. They don't block linuxrocks.online for example
@bob IMO snaps, flatpaks, appimages, and Debian backports are perfect for making Debian a solid desktop OS.
(I mean, *i'm* not a fan of snaps, but many people are, so good for them)
@brandon My employer blocks mastodon.social and joinmastodon.org, so go figure.
@bob I think people overestimate the need to have the latest and greatest sometimes. But for those that want or need the latest and greatest, its great there are options.
@bob If it works, and it suits your needs, no need to change! And yeah Debian 9 will still have official support for another year, and LTS (unofficial) support for two years after that.
Going to seed Debian ISOs for another 24 hours before I cut it off.
Both the free and the non-free ISOs have about an equal download rate. No surprise that fewer people bother to torrent the netinst ISOs (they are under 400MB in size, so why bother)
Running these torrents out of a ram disk was a great move IMO.
@omnipotens @architect I don't even look at the federated timeline anymore. The S/N ratio is horrible, and the risk of non-CW'd NSFW content is too high to risk using
.
@tzycce just hit backspace 26 times
@techit brick and mortar
@Piejacker875 I'll take some of that money. :)
@strider Oh I wholeheartedly agree that it is an insane thing to do, but my point is that people do it and it has nothing to do with the car being bad.
Just like upgrading your CPU, it doesn't mean the old one is bad in any way.
Its not how I would spend *my* money (hell I'm still using an Ivy Bridge CPU), but sometimes people have more money than sense.
@strider vehemently disagree. That's like saying someone bought a 2016 model sports car, and then you criticize them for trading it in for a 2019 model.
People's reactions to Gab joining the Fediverse has done, and will continue to do, far more damage to the communities here than Gab itself.
For example, many instances are blocking https://mstdn.io because they refuse to block Gab, separating people from their possible and actual friends on the network. This is harmful.
Defederating based off of who other instances federate with will harm adoption. When a user can't follow their friends on most nodes, they'll lose interest quickly.
@OpenComputeDesign @DashEquals generally there is no real reason to stay on Stretch, unless you have specific software that requires Stretch. Maybe 3rd party software might require Stretch still.
@DashEquals @OpenComputeDesign no, a reboot is required
KDE ❤️ @debian : Thanks for Buster!
