@jeremiah @Kelly_NAproducR ok, I'm keen to learn more about this. Citations please? Peer-reviewed articles of course, not news reports. I mean, you obviously haven't just assumed this is a legitimate concern because it's on the news. Right?

@jeremiah @Kelly_NAproducR fair points there, but l think you'll find that therapy dogs are as restricted, or more restricted, than human visitors. Which is why the sudden moral panic about them seems ... odd. If people started claiming out of nowhere that visitors with lighters in their pockets risk burning down hospitals, while actual hospital fires are being caused by other (highly profitable) equipment, it would be reasonable to suspect PR at work, no?

@lightweight my testing is all from a user POV so far. Maybe I'll finally get into playing with servers this winter?

@deadsuperhero you can immediately unfavourite things you don't want to bookmark, the OP still gets the notification that they got favourited. But yeah, it would be good if there was an "agree" or "this!" button, and a separate bookmarking button. #Loomio replaced "like" with the ability to respond to a post with a range of emoticons.

@jeremiah @Kelly_NAproducR is there not evidence that therapy dogs lead to better patient outcomes? In which case they're every bit as valid in hospitals as opiates, which are medically useful but also have some pretty major health risks attached. I notice that you left visitors off your list of essentials and infection vectors. Why's that?

@LWFlouisa@vampire.estoff of the top of my head, #FreeCode projects like #MediaGoblin and #GNU FM, and hosting projects like #Ibibio. Maybe folks could list projects they know of that need help with a #HelpWanted tag?

@LWFlouisa my understanding is that WP core is fully #FreeCode and self-hostable, although there are some non-free plugins and themes for it out there. WordPress.com is just the flagship instance (like Mastodon.Social is for Mastodon), and the money they make from premium accounts there covers its costs, and helps fund ongoing WP dev.

@clacke yes, I'm guessing he would, and given the ugly hacks required to get root and install a new OS on a lot of mobile devices, he might have a sliver of a point there too. My counterargument would be that there is no perfect security, we have to keep iterating towards "more secure", and that includes steps towards removing proprietary dependencies and corporate lock-in from our tool-chain.

@ZeniorXV @Gargron autocorrect tried to change "segmented" to "demented". Freudian algorithm? ;-)

@ZeniorXV @Gargron I also prefer "decentralised" as a generic term for "not centralised", with federated and distributed as subcategories. I think the term you're looking for is "unified" for a blockchain ledger, and maybe "segmented" for the fediverse as a database?

@ZeniorXV @Gargron side note; can we all please get into the habit of saying #blockchains, not "the blockchain"? The latter can tend to confuse newbies into thinking there's only one blockchain, and that all blockchain startups are using it, the same way there's only one internet, and all internet startups are using it.

@ZeniorXV have you looked at #Zotero? My wife used it to track references for her PhD, so it might be overpowered for what you need, but it's #FreeCode and has integrations with browsers etc. It also has link sharing features, so it could be useful in developing federated social bookmarking @deejoe @deadsuperhero @tom79 @ConnyDuck @arteteco

@Kelly_NAproducR so can visitors, hospital food, AC, medical staff, all sorts of things. I can't help but think starting a moral panic about therapy dogs is a great PR tactic for distracting people from the causes of antibiotic resistance, like over-use, factory farming etc, many of which are very profitable ...

@xurizaemon #HackerPublicRadio has also been mentioned as a potential host. Thanks for the encouragement, I'll give it some more serious thought. The Android/Linux device I just got might do a better job of recording than my poor old netbook too. Hmm ...
