@xurizaemon although doing audio-only allows one to work from a script, and that could help. I have thought about just reading my #Disintermedia blog piece and putting them up as podcasts, as a way to get started.
@xurizaemon Aww shucks =_= but self-deprecating humour aside, the key point for me is not that they have a team (although having production and promotion staff helps I'm sure), but that they have a studio or hall in which to record. There's a level of formality and polish which helps to avoid preaching to the choir (over-using jargon, in-jokes etc), and it's harder to achieve when recording at home by oneself, even with a desk and a green screen to give the impression of a news desk.
@Alonealastalovedalongthe@codesections ae, this is why I think it's sad that Mike's work on #NomadicIdentity wasn't included in #ActivityPub. This is a solved problem, yet the standards process failed to make use of the solution :-( It will probably take another generation of dev for this to be addressed.
#ShowerThought I'm seeing a lot of commons projects suffering from lack of volunteers and contributors at present. Maybe there's a need for a space where established but struggling projects can pitch to people keen to put some volunteer hours into the commons?
@lightweight not sure how well PT would work for image hosting. It's not really set up for galleries either, is it? Or were you thinking of hosting video separately from your image galleries? PT has come a long way, I'd definitely recommend putting any public video on it. See my recent posts about testing on a couple of instances.
@clacke I remember Moxie claiming that using F-Droid, or any app store other than Play, makes an Android device less secure, because it requires users to check a settings box to allow "unsafe" installs from outside of the Play Store. I had to do that with this 4.x device, but I think that's been addressed somehow in newer versions?
@lwflouisa yeah, newsflash folks, "retarded" is only a slur when used to describe a person, just like "chicken". Otherwise, they're just harmless descriptive words. https://invidio.us/watch?v=qACxfKB3iP4
@switchingsocial@deadsuperhero I just managed to watch a decent chunk of #Sintel on #VidCommons with smooth video streaming! As long as I didn't move the move the mouse and bring up the menu bar that is ;) It offers the option of 360 quality, and auto-detects that my old netbook can't handle more than that, unlike share.tube, which only goes down to 480, and starts off trying to feed my poor PC 720. This seems to be what makes the difference between whether or not it's watchable.
This was also the first time I've seen a comment stream under a video, made up of comments coming in from the #fediverse. I even recognized one of the commenters as a mutual follow. That's pretty exciting ;)
For the first time, I've managed to watch a complete video on #PeerTube. It was a guy talking, so the fact that video still freezes and lags all over the place on my ancient netbook didn't stop me. Still couldn't watch a film on it, or anything that depends on the video streaming smoothly. The audio worked flawlessly though: https://share.tube/videos/watch/763d1219-7d75-4cb9-8d09-51e6a78d0cda
@zladuric fair comment, but someone unstuck from the discussion that lead up to the comment you are replying to, and the radio show that I linked as the OP
