    Yes, absolutely aware of that... but I still think it'd be so worth doing it!

    Thingiverse is flooded with custom designs for temperature sensors, motion sensors, personal information monitors etc.

    But a truly modular design would go a long way for a whole lot of homebrew ESP/Arduino projects.

    @Chaos_99

    Also, should you have some OpenSCAD / FreeCAD experience, too, we're thinking about switching to a more open parameterized design for such a modular case.

    Your help is always appreciated, one way or another!

    @Chaos_99

    Happy to provide PCB dimensions of course! I collected a list of issues with the current design modules in this pad:

    https://pads.ccc.de/vNABbEmzx7

    I'm sure most of those issues are fairly easy to fix if you already got some experience with Fusion360. Maybe take a look at the broken PIR module, a few people complained about that in thingiverse's comment section... so I'm sure you'd make a bunch of people happy 😉

    @nin

    Just a heads up, I created a repository for this project so we don't have to rely solely on a pad for development:

    https://github.com/muesli/modular-case

    I hope you don't mind GitHub?

    You mean Fusion360? Yeah, I'd rather have it designed with some open source project.

    I like the hollow design with manual wiring - makes it easy to try out new designs. Cable ducts might be a nice addition, though.

    As mentioned I think the idea and design is great, just the execution is lacking a bit.

    ...or alternatively, we start a new project and design a similar thing in FreeCAD or OpenSCAD? Help! 🤗

    This modular NodeMCU case design would be so fantastic... if only someone documented the supported hardware and fixed a couple of issues with the design:

    https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2627220

    I'm happy to help documenting, but I need someone with (just a little) Fusion360 experience who's willing to fix up the modules with me.

    The Arduino environment's dependency management feels a bit like C programming back in the 90s:

    "just unzip this library right here"

    I found the Go tour to be the perfect start, especially if you're approaching it with some prior programming knowledge: https://tour.golang.org/

    Being from Augsburg yourself, make sure to visit the OpenLab. I'm always happy to personally give a quick introduction to #golang there.

    I hear you and I truly, truly miss him, too. At times I still go back and watch some of his old reviews and discussions with @jeff.

    I never knew him personally, but he was just one of those charismatic, quirky people who made you feel like you do.

    Can't believe it's been more than 5 years by now 😣

    Good, good times.

    I really miss the (for the most part) civilized and laid-back attitude of Fido. Back then communication was so asynchronous, even in the middle of a flame-war you took your time to think about and formulate a reasonable response 😆

    In all seriousness: I owe Fido so much, I learned pretty much everything I know about technology on those boards/areas.

    Loving every minute of the Giant Bomb game of the year deliberations.

    Hoping we'll also see "game of the decade" discussions next year. Seeing how many hours they need to come to a conclusion for just one year, they probably have to start recording sometime mid-June.
