Hey y'all. My girlfriend is helping out with summer camp at her church and is deeply hurt because the church, which is usually so accepting, is insisting on deadnaming a 4 year old trans girl. She's told the leadership that this bothers her and they've said they're willing to talk with her. She wants to bring resources to demonstrate why this is so bad. She's mentioned scientific studies, but I was wondering if anyone out there could provide some trans voices on the issue. TIA!
@maloki@gaeel I don’t think he was encouraging block evasion, but rather saying if someone wants to see the content of servers your server blocks they can move instances.
We are however choosing to tune out, because we know we're not interested in what they have to say. It's kind of like deciding against listening to a radio channel. They still retain their right to speak, we're just choosing not to listen.
There are a few cases of this being a preventative measure, in the case of Elekk, we know that we don't want to listen to Gab, or Kiwi-farms. We know they will harass our members.
When a server decides to silence or suspend another server on their side, it's that server curating it's experience.
We're not discriminating against anyone, and we're not limiting their right to speak. They are still able to keep doing all those things on their own server.
Person A: "What is speleology" Person B: "The study of caves. Here's a wikipedia link if you want to learn more." Person C: "Wikipedia isn't a reliable source@!@!!!!"
Me: I wish people would stop mistaking "don't use this as an academic source for citations in a paper" with "this is not a reliable source for getting an overview of what something is." For non-controversial topics, Wikipedia is rarely inaccurate, and controversial topics are typically flagged.
