@virtualwolf definitely. Sometimes I just call it quits and play a white character instead.

@cagatayy No, it’s only for GObject, GApplication, and GtkApplication for now.

@charlag @hirojin that has to be manually implemented for each type. The only types so far in the main gtk-glib stack are GObject, GApplication, and GtkApplication. Nothing for widgets

@hirojin if you’re referring to https://doc.rust-lang.org/nomicon/subtyping.html, then, no. subtyping can’t handle this case. Rust doesn’t have method overriding.

@hirojin what do you mean by subtyping?

In some cases, like a widget with custom sizing rules, it’s impossible to do what you want without subclassing.

Working with GTK-rs is really fun, but it can also be frustrating sometimes. Just about any time you’re working with custom widgets or the like you need to use various workarounds due to the lack of subclassing. These workarounds aren’t particularly hard, but having subclassing would help make things more solid.

one of my favourite memes goes something like "capitalism is as if you have a plate full of cookies you just made, and the capitalist takes all but one and says 'don't let that Black co-worker steal all of your cookies!'"

i love how windows users are just so used to being fucked over by installers constantly that websites have a "watch out for the adware by the way :)" reminders
and this is for directX, software made *by microsoft*. you can't even install microsoft software on your microsoft computer without getting dunked on
