Law imposes hefty fines, up to five years in prison for those who administer websites deemed to harm national interests.
The penalties also target those who intentionally or "in error without a valid reason" visit the banned websites considered by the authorities as threatening to Egypt's economic and national security interests,

hoshFinally I've discovered a free open source image viewer and editor that I feel at home with. It does everything I need, including batch processing, and is very intuitive and easy to use. Prior to this I was using XN View because, even though my demands are not particularly high, I couldn't find anything that I liked in the repositories. https://nomacs.org/
I'm grateful also to MX Linux for including Nomacs in their distro.
@Bob Mottram 🔧 ☕ ✅ Well here in Israel-Palestine we don't need to get permission, but on the other hand a Palestinian-Israeli poet recently received a 5 month sentence for a facebook post
Today it is estimated that the world loses a language every two weeks. Linguists have predicted that between 50 and 90% of the world’s 6,000 or so languages will go extinct in the coming century. For even a fraction of these to survive, we’re going to have to start thinking of smaller languages not as endangered species worth saving, but as equals worth learning.

hoshImagining the future has to take into account the degree to which our reality is conditioned by the existence of substances and materials. The common objects of our present day world, so much taken for granted, would have been unimaginable to people living in an era before their creation, and this is partly because new materials came into existence. Plastics, especially, made so many things possible, from seran wrap to artificial limbs. So if we try to imagine the future, we have to take into account that equally unimaginable objects may come into existence due to the creation of new materials that we do not now possess. Frank Herbert understood this when he imagined buildings constructed of "plasteel".
Dear friends, I am happy to share great news from Russia: a new Federal Law that entered into force on August 4th, 2018 firmly states that all Russian citizens can build a house on their land BY NOTIFICATION only. From now on we do not need to get any permissions from local authorities. The only thing we have to do is to NOTIFY the authorities that we are about to build a house. The owners of the land are allowed to build a house for personal needs and living the way they want using any material and project without any permissions!
I set up a new personal instance a couple of days ago on nearlyfreespeech.net. Everything is working quite well, but I have a couple of questions. I'll try to ask these also over at nearlyfreespeech, but it's possible that someone here already has experience with these issues and can answer them.
how to set up file permissions to allow the web server to write, as is required by Hubzilla. Of course 777 works but isn't safe.
how to make Wordpress allow crossposting from Hubzilla. It's denying authorization. (I have the hubzilla addon and filled in the login credentials.) This might also be about file permissions, this time with WP. (My blog is on the same server.)
Hubzilla keeps logging me out, in an unpredictable way. Anything I can do about that?
Does Hubzilla have an endless scroll addin or something for the activity feed? After loading the number of posts set in the settings (20 by default - I've raised that), I can't see any more.

hoshJeez. Thanks for putting these figures in Celsius so they make sense to the rest of us. It definitely seems to be cooler here in the Middle East this year than some more northern parts of the hemisphere. I got out of bed now for a bit because the warmth disturbed my sleep, but I'm sitting next to an open window with a delicious cool breeze.

hoshI'm surprised how easy it was to install a personal hubzilla instance on nearlyfreespeech.net, and it seems to be working quite well. It's true that I stayed up half the night "working" on it, but that was mostly just about needing to research various issues so I wouldn't end up doing something wrong - things that to other people with more experience would have been plain-sailing. There are still a couple of things to sort out, like permissions, cron and theme changes. NFS.net limits cronjobs to once an hour, though, on the other hand, posts seem to be coming in more frequently than that, so I don't quite get it.
It took me a while to realize that people outside hubzilla need to be -resubscribed. I might have some forum questions later, but till now, I didn't need to ask anybody's advise on anything.
