I just became a monthly patron of @fosstodon

If you like Mastodon and want to see it succeed and replace Twitter, you need to support your instance too.
By helping pay for the hosting and maintenance of your instance you will not only make sure it can keep running, but you also give the admins a reason to ensure that it's run and moderated to your liking.
If you're an instance admin, let people know how to support you.
@cassidyjames It's in the "About" page that's in the footer, FWIW
@cassidyjames We could add that, sure. Can you file a Github issue for it?
This is our 100th event!
Javascript in Jena https://gettogether.community/events/118/javascript-in-jena/ #gettogether
We've added a new Do Not Track feature for our privacy concerned users! This will prevent #GetTogether from using Google Analytics, as well as social media sharing code, from every page you visit on the site.
While this reduces functionality of the site, and it means we lose visibility on how those people are using it, privacy is an important feature for a lot of our community and we want to support their choice.
@cedesguin @switchingsocial @Mastodon @pixelfed @anfora @Chocobozzz @funkwhale @BaptisteGelez @prismo @tuxether @cloutstream @calendar_social does SailfishOS have some kind of federation support built in?
There's an amazing number of #ActivityPub #alternatives now available or under development:
Twitter -> @Mastodon and #Pleroma
Instagram -> @pixelfed and @anfora
YouTube -> #PeerTube ( @Chocobozzz )
Soundcloud -> @funkwhale
MeetUp -> @GetTogetherComm
Medium -> #Plume ( @BaptisteGelez )
Reddit -> @prismo and Anancus ( @tuxether )
LinkedIn -> @cloutstream
Google Calendar -> @calendar_social
Anything missing from the list? What else is needed?
@mayel @Matt_Noyes @mattcropp I've added the ability for the Organization owner (mayel) to create new #GetTogether teams under the Social.Coop org, so you can now make as many as you want!
@marcus Because it worked and I knew how to embed it. Also OpenStreetmaps has an API limit, IIRC, after which you have to host your own tile server.
@codepuppy @switchingsocial The world is a pretty great place, maybe the people you need in life are out there waiting for you. I hope you find them 😀
@codepuppy @switchingsocial you can fix that by creating your own #gettogether in your town 😁
@melunaka That's what we've gone with for now. The borders are very subtle, but they're there
@kyzh yes and yes!
@cloutstream is working on LinkedIn type features and @GetTogetherComm on meetup/event type features. There is also @calendar_social thats working on here too which I would assume would have some overlap.
@Riley @kyzh
There's also a very simple JSON API that can syncronize Events between instances of GetTogether, which will eventually be replaced by a full ActivityPub implementation
@Riley @kyzh There's currently an ActivityStream compliant feed of Events and Places, but it's not using the ActivityPub bits yet. There's an open issue for this and we've had some people volunteer to work on them, but can always use more help!

@Matt_Noyes @mattcropp @mayel
Done: https://gettogether.community/org/social.coop/
Mayel you should have the ability to create new events at the organization level for your member teams to participate in. Unfortunately there's no way yet for you to add new member teams, I'll have to do that for you. But if you use this feature I'll prioritize adding that in the next milestone. I've already added your existing team as a member.
@mattcropp @mayel People can create their own #SocialCoop team in their city, that will make it easier for people to discover what's close to them.If you're interested, I can group all those groups under a single SocialCoop "organization" so you can list all member teams and coordinte joint events.
Organization support is still in early development, so it's not self-service yet, but I'm happy to manage it manually for you for now.
See https://gettogether.community/org/endlessos/ for an example
And if any #SocialCoop members want to use that group to organise meet-ups in your area, DM me your email address and I'll add you.
The open source real life meetup platform @GetTogetherComm has quite a few groups already:
https://gettogether.community/teams/all/
If you want to just see groups near you, go to the instance's front page at:
https://gettogether.community/
You can also set up your own group. (Unlike meetup.com there are no charges on #GetTogether.)
At the moment groups are mainly about computing, but there's no restriction on the topics a group can cover.
