I was listening to a radio interview regarding mafia involvement in the Christmas tree business. At first I was kind of surprised, but after thinking about it, it makes sense. They're cash businesses that pop up suddenly in parking lots and then evaporate a few weeks later. Great for laundering money (and apparently also selling drugs).
I know there were very valid real-world reasons for getting rid of Cas Anvar from The Expanse, but I can't help but feel that without Alex the crew chemistry is off -- especially now that everyone's all broody.
Responding to @[anonymiss](/people/bfe281001b5a8561), here are my #3movies choices:
Favorite: If I had to pick just one, it would be Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven. It's a fantastically acted film that subverts and deconstructs the Western genre while also being one of the best Westerns ever made.
Current: The movie that has most impressed me in recent years has been Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The animation is amazing eye candy all the way through, and the story is fresh and funny and heartfelt in a way that most live-action superhero movies are not.
Trash: I've seen a lot of bad movies, but the 2000 Dungeons & Dragons movie sticks out as one of the most comically terrible things I've ever seen. It had enough money and star power behind it that there's no excuse for it to be as absolutely horrible as it was. Do not watch it.
I finished Leviathan Falls this afternoon. I was a bit let down that it explained less about the alien stuff than I expected, but it did explain enough to wrap up the story in a sensible way. There's supposed to be one more novella out in early 2022. It might go into that stuff, but I doubt it. I guess it will stay mysterious.
I wanted to create an explicitly Death Guard themed piece of terrain for Warhammer, so I've been working on this piece. The concept is a depot for re-fueling units and vehicles with the liquefied corruption they spew from their various weapons. That stuff is, of course, highly mutagenic, so the tank itself is growing and festering.
Anyway, there' still a lot of paint work to be done on it, but now that it has a base coat you can really see how it's going to ultimately look. I'm pretty happy with it.
I stumbled on a rock cover artist in a similar (but less polished) vein to someone like Leo Moracchioli. Anyway, she has a really unusual voice for a female vocalist. Check out the cover of Pantera's "Walk" for an example.
As a book reader, I'm a little confused as to what they're up to. Despite the fact that they've decided not to continue the show and adapt books 7-9, they keep setting up stuff for it. Given that this final season is only 6 episodes it will have to run pretty lean, yet they're bringing in stuff about Laconia from the novellas that won't pay off. Why would they do this?
I cracked open the last bottle of my first attempt at mead, which I've saved for a year. It's cloudy because I used bread yeast, and I don;t know the ABV because I lacked a hydrometer at the time. It's not fantastic, but it's not too bad either.
