@ChrisWere I think you're right. But mastodon isn't important because of what it has become and is, to me, but what it could be. Mastodon has bad and good people, but ultimately mastodon is just so much better than the alternative.

After watching this recent bout of bullying spiral out of control is the first time I've felt the Fediverse might not be for me either.
Regardless of your view on the chap, if that kind of abuse can happen to someone you don't like, it can happen to you, or someone much more vulnerable. It's been made abundantly clear that our anti-abuse tools and our community behaviour are inadequate.
The Fediverse failed today and we need to take a critical look at what can be done.

Dogpiling and harassment are off-limits no matter how justified you think you are. The rules are for everyone.
Strongly considering adding screenshot-dunking to the code of conduct as well. We don't need that culture here.

Wenn ich Zeit hΓ€tte, kΓΆnnte ich vielleicht mein deutsch schnell verbessern. Aber Vokabelnlernen ist langweilig. Ich habe Lust, in der Zukunft Zeit in Deutschland zu verbringen, um mein VerstΓ€ndnis zu ΓΌben.

My friend's nexus 6p started bootlooping and its bootloader was locked. Deep in an xda-thread someone said they managed to get out of the bootloop to unlock the bootloader by APPLYING A 500 DEGREE F HEATGUN TO THE FINGERPRINT SENSOR WHILE BOOTING. I tried it and it worked. Thanks xda-developers. -

@ster That really depends. I know of instances that are running on old software without any firewalls or updates in months, that is much worse than hosting on Masto.host, even being self hosted.
So, it's not a black and white thing. There is a large spectrum of gray in the middle. I don't think Masto.host is ideal but I think it is necessary if we want to move to a decentralised future and allow non tech admins access.
But that is just my view and you could be right.
