Just discovered PostgREST http://postgrest.org/en/v5.2/
It basically creates a RESTful API out of a PostgreSQL schema, allowing queries in endpoints, etc. Worth checking it out of you are in need of something similar!

@badrihippo huh, I always read it as "Thing I learned". Either works I guess :)
Dear #fediverse. I work as an #architect and design buildings that harm the planet. I am looking for a practicing #engineer who can teach me building energy modelling using #opensource tools. I have a background in software dev, run #gentoo #linux and am willing to learn down to the details.
I do not have a background in heat transfer or thermodynamics, which is why I am asking for a tutor.
I promise to use this to design better buildings.
Please help retoot this so I can find someone.
OK, that was *way* more effort than I wanted it to be. But it works.
I shall now add "Provide AArch64 Shiny Server package rebuilds" to my todo list....
Random idea for a Mastodon tool you never realised you needed:
You've clicked on a user and you want to check out their timeline and it's 90% boosts and 10% of their own toots. So you click the magic *hide boosts* button under their profile menu and bam, now you can see what they actually have to say when they aren't supporting everyone else.
@ben0_o oooh, like! I have definitely had this problem...
Status: Installing Shiny Server on ARM64 so I can have :rstats: apps running inside the house.... Compiling the required :rstats: packages is sloooooooow
I may be taking this too far... but that's how you learn stuff.
Guess what, the Sun (yes, that huge burning thing that gives us energy and was our only source of light for MILLENIA) doesn't kill https://www.outsideonline.com/2380751/sunscreen-sun-exposure-skin-cancer-science
@jwildeboer it didn't *start* well, never mind what the aging process has done to it.
When evaluating a #machinelearning/#datascience problem always account time for every step:
- framing the problem
- defining data sources
- ETL
- Data analysis
- Modeling
- Evaluation
- Deployment
If you account only modeling you're saying: "Building this app took 30 minutes!" when that is just the compile/build time
@alan amen. Also those time pieces are *far* from equal... ;)
Many articles about AI issues are popping out everywhere: https://towardsdatascience.com/when-automation-bites-back-8541b061d5ee
I'd say: Winter is coming!
@ben0_o its not a night feed. He just tends to get up a 6
@ben0_o drinking, nope, but Stellar is until 3am and then the wee one is up at 6am... I might as have been hungover... :)
@codesections same, I also use arch. Yet I note *just* how many apps have files in .local/share (118 :p)
Pretty sure you'll want to code your app to use.the XDG default if the vars are unset.
@codesections likewise $XDG_CONFIG_HOME for the config files (which does indeed default to your suggested path)
By using the Freedesktop vars in your code, it'll default to those, but you allow users to override if they have odd requirements.
@codesections it should be $XDG_DATA_HOME which usually defaults to ".local/share/appname".

I'm into a project in Canada aiming to promote neurodiversity for witch I'm doing the SEO for. I would like to create a Mastodon and Diaspora* instance but I can't stand on a good domain name. Spectrum.something? Neurodiversity.something? Aspie.something? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Not quite midnight yet, but an early present has arrived from one of my favourite breweries...
@puffinux one for you? ;)
Merry Christmas all! If you don't do Christmas, then health and good cheer to you!
@gairsty @gentoorebel seconded (thirded?). Cooking is my hobby, and while it's a bit more fraught with peril these days, thanks to the kids, it's no less enjoyable.
Full Christmas dinner here (UK style), turkey, potatoes, parsnips (a very underrated vegetable!), many side dishes, it will be great ;)
