@mattmcnutt@brandon unfortunately, I think Azure is already up there with the dominating names in this space. Others being AWS, Rackspace and Digital Ocean.
The only reason Microsoft are integrating Linux in to Azure, and the Windows desktop, is to make money (obviously). Linux has a huge market share in the server space, and they want some of that. Then, having Linux within desktop land keeps techies in Windows, as they can now use things like BASH natively.
@RyuKurisu@mike@FuckOffGoogle I'm quite happy with DDG, personally. However, if someone can give me a good argument to host a serx instance, then I'm happy to do so.
Sorry, but saying it's on AWS isn't a good enough reason for me. I'm a pragmatist, so it has to improve my experience/workflow somehow. 👍
@RyuKurisu it was because the storage was smaller. Even creating a snapshot and blowing it on to a new droplet wouldn't have worked according to their support guys. Ah well, easily worked around. 😀
So I’ve been hosting my #website with #DigitalOcean for quite some time now. They recently announced some really great value droplets, one of which is half the price of the one I’m currently using, and the only difference is that it has 5GB less SSD, fine by me.
Couldn’t downgrade, so I set up a new one. Took 15 mins to spin up a new droplet, install prerequisites, install and configure Ghost (with SSL) and have my site back up and running. That really is a testament to how far Ghost has come.
Due to my instance crashing and burning, I've lost all follows and followers. You can find me here now. If I followed you before, pls send me a reminder.
@mike I’ve reinstalled the app and followed a few people on there, however it keeps pushing me round to “collections”. They seem to have made the whole experience very convoluted.
