@BNolet I tried discord, but the couple of instances I tried seemed to be getting hammered with blog post links that had no context. I quickly left, not for me.

@BlossomingLuddite I completely agree. I've tried a number of Android tablets, my Nexus 7 was a great device. However, I took a punt and tried an iPad Mini 4. It's a great bit of kit, and the OS performs wonderfully.

I don't use iCloud, iMessage or iAnything really (apart from the app store), so my engagement in to the walled garden is very limited - best of both worlds.

@MooShoe @lx nothing is special about it, that's the whole point. They have followed the KISS principle here. They're not trying new desktop environments, or trying to make users change their work flow, just so they can be different.

They're putting out a simple, good looking distro that just works and gets out of the way.

Its a refreshing change IMHO. They're doing what Ubuntu did 8 years ago. That's why I'm excited about it.

Even the decrypt screen looks great. I really like it when developers do things like this, it shows they have paid attention to the details.

@porus furthermore, if the service is compromised, having all your other passwords intrinsically linked to your master password means protecting yourself if practically impossible. You can't simply change your master password to protect yourself, as all your subsequent passwords will change with it.

Nice idea, but very flawed by the looks of it.

@porus just had a look at Lesspass. I like the idea of computing the pw, rather than storing it. Interesting concept. Couple of things that concern me:

    1) I don't like the fact that the computation is done on their server, what are they storing? (I know you can self-host).

    2) The computation could make it easier to compromise the system over a traditional pw mgr. All someone needs is your master pw and login to compute your pw. If you use 2fa on a another pw mgr, you still have protection.

@porus absolutely agree. It still baffles me that my bank limits my pw to 12 characters with no specials. However I use a passphrase on my Lastpass account, then randoms that change regularly on my accounts.

Never used lesspass, but I am thinking about changing from Lastpass to keepass.

@porus there are plenty of them online, but I don’t trust them personally. If you want a really secure password that’s easy to remember, don’t have a password at all! Have a passphrase. Something like “8 green bananas were left by Mike in the shop, he is silly.” It’s loooong has lots of special characters (spaces, a comma and a full stop), letters and a number. Plus, it’s completely random.
