@joseph what SSL are you using? I'm using #LetsEncrypt without issue.

@h4ck3r9 if you want user@fossdodon.org forwarding address to your mailbox, you can have one. You won't be able to send from it, but you can give the email out.

@brandon there's a tool called de ja dupe which is great for making backups. You could have it backup to a NAS, then have that NAS backup to the cloud.

@brandon don't fall in to the trap. That's exactly why they offer this kind of stuff - to entice people in. Once they have the monopoly, you then have the Facebook issue where everyone is using it, so people are reluctant to move.

@PeterCxy I don't think that would work, as we're then back to the point of ease of use (or lack of).
You're right, on the family thing, but I think the most likely dynamic to have this lack of trust, would be siblings. Which would mean they're likely young, and therefore would probably have no issue with a password manager.

@bobstechsite @zangetsu_MG I agree, it's not perfect, but nothing is.
The likelihood is that browsers etc. will be set to remember logons (as that's what most people do), so I think that would probably negate the need for the book when "out and about". Certainly this would be the case on a mobile device.

@joseph personally, I WebDAV to a Synology. This then backs up to USB and another NAS at my parent's house via VPN.
You could buy a cheap buffalo or bet gear NAS and do something similar.

@nynhex @fosstodon that's very kind, thank you. You donate to whichever you prefer, you're the one kind enough to donate.
With regards to hosting. I've run projects in the past and hosting/managing the tin at the backend always sucked the fun out of it. This time I decided to pay for managed hosting.
We're with https://masto.host (run by @hugo) he's awesome and the stability is rock solid.
