@wakingrufus@HerraBRE you'll find @schestowitz is also a good person to follow re: benefits & drawbacks of companies sponsoring open source projects.
I regularly see him pointing out for example that Jim Zemlin (the chap who heads up the Linux Foundation) draws a bigger salary than the one allocated for Linus Torvalds, yet he doesn't even use GNU/Linux (let alone contribute code for it!)
Ah, the dulcet tones of Americans ranting about taxes... ☺️
In the rest of the civilised world the government does them for us. All we have to do is look at a page once a year and say "yup, that looks right".
In Britain we get given a code that dictates how much tax we pay each month. (While we do have to declare additional income, we don't have to file a pre-filled tax return unless we've earned £2500+ outside the normal day job)
So, basically Mozilla's latest shenanigan has led to me installing GNU Icecat on machines that aren't already running Abrowser.
I hope they made a lot of money, because their silly decision to automatically install a plugin without telling users is going to damage their reputation.
The most gutting thing is they've done some fantastic work improving browser performance recently.
In preparation for Ubuntu 18.04 next year I've also been trying out new desktops in 16.04, seeing as Unity is now being Jettisoned.
I'm currently settling on MATE. It's a bit of a throwback (as a modern port of Gnome 2), but works well. With the BlackMATE theme it looks pretty cool too 😎
