Additional proof: stayed weird.

I think the current calm and tidiness must be fairly recent. Imagine the same street a few hundred years ago with wagons, horse shit and maybe people emptying swill into the street from upper windows.

I wonder if there is any protection against whiplash, or worse, banging one's head into the back window.

any resemblance to the suspects in the Novichok poisonings is strictly coincidental.

Despite @Mike Macgirvin 's caution not to use summaries in posts, in the test that I made, Mastodon handled a summary OK, without a content warning. Maybe something has changed on the Mastodon side? (I made a test user on Mastodon.cloud)

What about Wales? I was thinking maybe just England should leave the UK... along with the EU.

A civilisation that fascinates me - the source of the avatar I use in hubzilla - let's hope the politicians and vedic astrologers will get out of the way and let the scientists do their work.

I don't understand why there are 2, especially if the app isn't installed. I notice that what is pinned to the nav bar doesn't appear in the dropdown menu. So if you were to install the gallery app, you could probably then try pinning it to the nav bar, and maybe at least one of them would move there. Just an idea.

Probably when we feel that our thirst for knowledge is in danger of being quenched, we should know that it's time to plunge the bucket a little deeper down the well shaft

@Max Kostikov thanks. It must be one of those weird things that happen only to me.!

@Barefoot Runner thanks - I think it worked also for me, on other days

Auroville. The latest copy of News & Notes makes me feel nostalgic.

The Photos component: I'm currently spending a lot of time on a project of putting up old and new family photos.
There's a lot I really like!. The developers have done a great job and I think this is completely usable as is, or I wouldn't be bothering to spend time with it. The following is only about the things that seem to be missing, or which I didn't yet find a way to do.- I don't see a way to rename a folder once it's up. Initially I used overly long names. Likewise I don't find a way to move files.
- I wish that "recent" pictures referenced meta-data like exif, as, in the case of putting up old albums, "recent" could be that 20 year old album from an old family vacation.
- Maybe Photos and Galleries need to be somehow combined. Like it would be nice to have those forward and backward controls from Gallery after you enlarge an image to full-size in Photos.
- It would be nice to be able to view exif data when looking at a picture.
- It would be nice to have a slideshow function
- It might be possible to achieve some sort of preload magic in Photos, like loading the next photo in an album in the background. (This may already be happening in Gallery).
By the way, I find it more convenient to put up photos via normal browser upload. WebDav seems to stall each time. (Working via Thunar file manager on MX Linux over a reasonable broadband connection)

Cat-blocker! Yuval Noah Harari suggests tools that could be developed to mitigate our online addictions rather than exploit and monetize them. If we're addicted to cute cat images there could be something to prevent these being shown to us. I'd like one too, for the opposite reason.

@Mike Macgirvin face palm. thanks.

Fuzzy dates (which seem to be called here "brief" dates) aren't always suitable and make it harder to know when exactly an article was written. What file(s) need to be modified in order to obtain non-fuzzy dates please?
