Overall, I would give it a B. You have talent for this. Everything I've brought up are very common beginner mistakes/issues. Look into RocketJump and nofilmschool for more free help. I am looking forward to seeing what you do in the future.
Your editing is pretty decent. you have a flash frame at your first cut and your jump cuts are very disorienting. You also spend a bit too much time as a 'talking head' sprinkle in a couple clips of the movie to illustrate your points about the plot. I know that it's hard to avoid the copyright gestapo these days, but fuck 'em. Also, your music bed is a little too loud, it competes with your voice try turning it down by 2-3 DB 7/10
@hushabunny Your have very harsh shadows on your face and the wall behind you. you probably only have a single overhead room light, which is fine. If you have a west facing window, try shooting in the evening to get really nice golden hour light. If you have some money grab a kit like this. https://tinyurl.com/yaaljksr You could also use some daylight LED bulbs in clip on work lamp fixtures. Just be sure to get ones that are dim-able. Lighting and composition 7/10
@hushabunny Very good first video! Your voice is clear, your are very articulate and your points are solid and well argued. Scrip/delivery 8/10. The top of your head is cut off! You need head room! Give your self about 1/4 to 1/2 of a head above your head in the future.
@hushabunny *Gets in old man rocking chair* I learned to edit back in 2007 on an Avid system using S-VHS and Mini DV tapes. all in SD.
Be glad your not using Avid. Avid hates you, Avid will make you bleed, Avid will punish you for the smallest mistake. The day I moved to Final Cut Pro was like being released from prison. Capturing tape is hours of boredom interjected with moments of sheer panic. I move to a solid state camera in 2013 and never looked back.
@hushabunny Yeah, I just found out today about a free Linux version that I've been trying to get to run for most of the night. Back around 2010 it was 10k for the license another shitload of money for a Jesus computer and a Red Hat license. And something like 20k for their color grading control surface. The face that their giving away a version now blow my old man mind.
