@emacsen @cathal @bob Yes, one way to do it would be to have digicash-style tokens for postage. Then if you add store and forward routing, helping route content could be a way of getting postage.
Note that the *only* time you need this is for people to send your messages via a public address (not to be confused with AP's "public inbox"). You can hand out ocaps where people can send you messages "for free" if you know them.

@emacsen Yeah, I left it out of the demo because I wanted to make it clear that the algorithm didn't depend on it. But a production system needs to provide *some* answer of how you get things

Ooops, it's actually smaller than that, forgot to remove some comments. 344 lines... nice.

I kind of do have a portion of vats, but they're currently called "actormaps" (literally just maps between refs/ids and their handlers). The full vat system will be layered on top of it. Turns out there's a lot you can do with *just* an actormap.

The core of goblinoid has grown a bit, but not too large. 368 SLOC currently. That's not including comments and various end-user sugary utilities.
Most of the work, pre-vats (inter-process communication) is done. I feel like this is a fairly understandable core.

@darius Apparently I have some writing to do myself, as to why I think the contemporary left, right, and libertarian US political alignments are all confused about power dynamics ;)

@darius I'm not libertarian; I think that railing against government doesn't make sense because "many things become governments". Need a better approach to dealing with social structures than a governement-or-not boolean.

@darius I also want networks that map well onto human social relations. I'm not sure about "the way power dynamics work in the real world" because I'd describe our society's current power dynamics to be frighteningly imbalanced.
How about this as a goal: networks which map onto *healthy* human social relations and power dynamics? :)

@emsenn You will find I don't have much sympathy towards webfinger, and it's not in the AP spec, so I'm not defending current behavior. :)

People in 2016: Trump is going to put people in concentration camps.
Media: That's absolutely preposterous.
People in 2019: These are concentration camps.
Media: Are they, technically, "concentration camps" though?

The media won't ever acknowledge that these are concentration camps, even if we end up with Nazi-style death camps, because it would expose their own negligence in covering these issues in good faith.

Media: Look at these dapper Nazis who believe in something called a white ehtnostate. So Dapper!
Dapper Nazi: Thanks media, anyways, we need to ethnically cleanse the US of people with darker skin tones. We can use camps and law enforcement.
Media: So dapper!! ๐๐๐๐

@Laurelai @emacsen I agree that the solution probably involves some rearchitecture. AP can accomodate it, but the way it's currently deployed can't. We might be able to retrofit old systems... but we need to show what the right solution is first.

@kaiyou @Laurelai @emacsen That'll be less so the case when abuse/spam becomes more automated though. Being on a small mailserver doesn't mean you get less spam.
