"F-Droid won’t tolerate oppression or harassment against marginalized groups. Because of this, it won’t package nor distribute apps that promote any of these things. This includes that it won’t distribute an app that promotes the usage of previously mentioned website, by either its branding, its pre-filled instance domain or any other direct promotion."
    Bravo @fdroidorg 👏

@fuzzylynx @fedilab @Tusky @codewiz @mayel One wonders: if servers didn't implement blocking, and someone started implementing blocking, would we be having the same conversation about that feature? Freezepeach and "it's not an instance admin's role to decide for users..."

@bgcarlisle Yea, jeeze, back when I graduated Genetics the news were all posting articles with bullshit scifi images of _left handed helices_, this is much more realistic

Why are there no tech coops active in Ireland? I'd be interested in collaborating or joining if there were one out there, but I'm far too irresponsible to actually found one. :/

If you have or will soon have an #ElectricCar, be very wary of buying a "WallBox" charger. I have experiencing a very frustrating set-up which, it turns out, requires me to have a Google Account, sign a new privacy policy, have a _recent_ android phone, install a proprietary app, and sign up to a subscription service (first year free! :D :D :D)... just to activate a core feature I already paid extra to have.
This is #IoT. Garbage you can't own, which makes you a serf, and costs more.

Now that the discourse around #Facebook begins to implicitly accept that it's declining or collapsing, it's become a sure thing. To help accelerate the decline, remind your friends and family of the services that Facebook owns that they should avoid along with the social network: #Instagram, #Whatsapp.
Remind them that #Google are just a more powerful Facebook.
Before they migrate to a new silo, and a new master.. let them know something new is growing over here on the Fediverse.

An oft-overlooked perk of full-disk encryption is that, when someday you dispose of a broken hard drive, it's OK to not worry about having your data nicked. Maybe this means the drive makes it to a recycling centre intact and gets recycled fully?
Or, when selling a laptop, you can save time by only shredding the first little portion containing the keys, permanently consigning the rest to cryptographic oblivion.
FDE: assisting in hardware reuse and recycling since its inception.

We need to study and design around a "Green Pill": What are the arguments and revelations that can mobilise a moderate or apathetic human into becoming an active defender of our planet?
How do we get people to understand, viscerally and personally, that they are causing hardship to themselves and others, and they must act immediately?
And, how do we stop them falling into counterproductive traps like buying organic, or fighting science?

Gendered toilets in Ireland shouldn't rely on "M" and "F", because those could equally stand for Mná (🚺) and Fir (🚹)

What I am doing though, is using biodegradeable coffee cups and lids as shelter for the mealworms, because if they eat and digest those, they're food-grade and biodegradeable anyway so the break-up will only accelerate composting. Food-grade bioplastic waste could definitely be accelerated and reduced using this method. Just slice it up finely with a scissors and add to the normal bedding. #Mealworm #Composting: Turning coffee-cups into chicken snacks the lazy way. :)

@Codeawayhaley You seem like someone who would know, so while you're on the subject of rainfall over deep continental areas..
There's a hypothesis that, because trees can help nucleate clouds through transpiration & VOCs & pollen, they help increase rain. And further, by moving water in this way they tend to create patterns of rainfall inland from coastal forests, with that pattern repeating as a "pump" to push water deeper into continents.
    Is this legit, though?

I was asked at work once to guess what the biggest risk to the company might be in coming years. The answer is always "That climate change has tipping points and that we're nearing or beyond some of them", but that's not really the answer they were looking for, I suppose.
